To enjoy Talisker you really need to be sitting in front of an open fire in a cozy bothy on Skye spinning Smoke and Strong Whisky by Christy Moore (yes, I know he's Irish but the music fits) while the snow falls outside and The Cuillin loom above.Commencal Meta 5.5.1

cindy crawford could squirt it out of her obvious straight into my gob and i still wouldnt enjoy it i dont think.
its interesting as it taste so unusual but i dont think i will ever got on with it.0 -
I always seem to get a TCP aftertaste with Talisker. Not unpleasant, but very different.
I got very drunk at my Uncle's wedding when I was about 16. I ended up sat at the bar in his in-laws guest house on the Kintyre Peninsular, not far from Cambletown. The priest who conducted the wedding was buying the whiskey and no he didn't try anything  He tried explaining to me then about the different flavours and how to taste different things in each whiskey. Was lost on me at the time.0 -
My wife has just bought me a bottle of 'single barrel Jack Daniels' as a gift for completing a course. Yet to open it though so I can't tell you what it tastes like.+ 1001 posts reset by the cruel cruel moderators!

I had a bottle last year and was disappointed. I think I had built it up too much before opening the bottle0

Pay day on friday so i think i'll treat myself.
yeah i tried some a short while back and it was amazing. i had a look in the booze aisle last night and it was 28 quid for a bottle so i might well treat myself.
Saw that tonight sheeps, but also saw the fiddich 18y is down to £30 so i think my choice is made.Never argue with an idiot, he'll only drag you down to his level and beat you with experience.0 -
haha, i also spotted that and thought it good considering the fact that the 15yo is 32 quid or summat!!0

It all depends on you personal taste, but my wife and I prefer Highland / Island Single malts, these are mainly smokey and peaty.
A real nice whisky is from Isla, 16 yr old Lagavulin , a heavy fruity nutty taste with a smokey finish. 8)
A nice light one is 14 yr old Oban.
Jura is also nice
I could go on, but I shall leave to make up your own mind.
Another way to find you tipple of choice is to buy miniatures.0 -
I am enjoying my bottle of JD single barrel.
Just seen an advert for Best Western Hotels and saw that one of the hotels has 300 types of whiskey. http://www.bw-bellhotel.co.uk/+ 1001 posts reset by the cruel cruel moderators!

thanks to a generous benefactor i tried some penderyn and it was delicious, it does taste different to the scotch varieties i have tried but it is really easy to drink and has a similar feel and finish to jameson.
im definately going to buy some as an early xmas present to myself0 -
got some tasty johnnie walker green label (and some new jamesons which was lucky as i was running low) as a gift for christmas and it is well nice.
it is made mostly from talisker which is a whisky i dont like at all, however in this, even though i recognise it, it is delicious.
the whiskys used in this blend are 15 years old so could it be that i would like a 15yo talisker even if i dont like the 10yo stuff i have tried before, are the two similar in style?
so, all i need to try now is the gold label to have completed my johnnie walker experiment (an experiment i didnt even realise i had started!)0 -

I did the Talisker brewery last summer, was an awesome tour - the smells were stunning!
Our whiskey lady told us they had some casks that were older than the maximum cask period but no-one knows what is in store for them.... you should put your name down Sheeps.
Anyway, way to peaty for me. Bought a bottle of Southern Comfort last month which I'm halfway through now and GOD that is nasty brew. Way too sweet.
Jamesons will be the next bottle0 -

I bought a bottle of Balveanie Signature prior to christmas on a friends recommendation. It has a 3 barrel maturing process twice in boubon barrels and once in lolorosso sherry butts.
The colour, aromour and taste are just sublime. It's gone to the top of my fave list. You really should try it.
The Balveanie website also have an online whiskey shelf that once you've registered you can list all the whiskey's you've drunk and it has tasting notes and charts to help you categorize your whiskey. It's awesome
They even send you a little notebook to your home address for you to use as well.

I've been trying to cut down on my £30 a week shopping bill, and adding a bottle of JD to the trolley just wasn't going to help... So I ended up at Aldi where I bought the most expensive Burbon there!
At half the price of the JD in Morissons... and 88% of the flavour. I have to say, I was very surprised at the £10/70cl tipple. Recommended.0 -

i just got a couple of new bottles of scotch for my impending birthday, one of which was a bottle of balvennie signature and i can confirm that it is delicious, it looks smells and tastes beautiful.
t'other is some chivas regal which again, is lovely to drink.
i know there are folk who dont like blends but its another that i really like.0 -
The whole thread is a bit TL;DR for, but has anyone suggested Crown Royal? It's a Canadian Whiskey, and IMO, pretty tasty0

My dad gave me a bottle of this on saturday, he said it was meant to be for my 28th birthday but he forgot to pass it on with all the goings on!
Trying to think when to open this though, does it need an occassion??

if your a whiskey fan it might be worth trying to see what it's like comared to the typical scottish whiskey. i wouldn't know because i don't drink it0 -
You can't go wrong with a speyside malt. 2 types in particular stand out.
Macallan - 18 years old
Mortlach - 16 years old
Both are smooth and easy to drink and go down well no matter the occasion. Whisky is the water of life and to quote a famous phrase:
There is no such thing as a bad malt whisky although some are better than others.0 -

penderyn is a beautiful drink, I drink plenty of it when I'm down in the wild west. I'm not a fan of baileys but I like merlin which is the penderyn equivilent too0
