What do you guys think? Asside from the fact that you could easily make one for free yourself, do you think it's a viable option instead of material/innertube cabletied to the fork sanchion?

Linky to review

I personally prefer the understated/hidden look of it, though this is simply tosh unless it actually works and keeps your face free of mud.

  • Well it got 4.5 stars so the tester must have thought it worked other wise those star ratings are a load of rubbish and BR need new testers because they make out products are good a. because they didn't have to pay for them and have no concept of the 'actual value of them. b. they get personal money value out of making out they are good by staring it up when they are clearly $hite. Let's trust the ratings and say it's a goer... anyone got any real experience of them as I'd like a second opinion as I'd quite like one.

if it works as well as the review says, I think it quite 'neat'.....

i personally don't see "the fact that you could make it yourself" as any sort of criticism of it though....downtube crud guard from a fizzy drinks bottle has been done before....

and people on the intertubes have also done rear ones too....

  • If it does stop shoot getting flung up into your mouth and face I am almost certainly going to get one.

At £7 it may be worth a punt.

I'd still like to hear from some poeple who have actually got one though.

looks like a mudtrap to me.
I suppose if you couple it with a crudcatcher it should work okay.
Or you could extend it along the tyre further and use some metal rods to attach it to the fork near the axel...oh, wait, that's been done before hasn't it...

  • May give one a try myself! This is what I like about it, to quote the review:

"Due to the simplicity of its design, the Bender is seriously lightweight – in fact, we’re certain it’s the lightest guard available. Its stealthy look means it won't ruin the lines of your bike"

More imprtantly it's discrete, as in out of the way, ideal for my type of bike that cannot use a Credcatcher due to cable routing

it looks a pretty slick piece of kit IMO.
obviously could do with user more reviews , but looks like it will reduce crap around
    fork stansions and crown
for 7 quid and months of sh*t weather to come i'd buy one
    who sells em ?

ok so is it worth the £7? well, most definately yes, i went out for a ride with my brother who at present has no guards on, when we got back his face is covered in mud, mine? well, not a spot! my only cocern with this guard is that it only stops mud getting on your face, you can see the mud, water still flying forward but at low enough level to miss your body and face, however it doesn't stop mud getting to the underneath of your h/set or fork crown as the pics show, another potential problem for some is fitment, it sits real close to your tyre, and i mean REAL close, not sure how this would fare in thick mud, although i'm currently riding on bontrager xdx 2.2's which are quite a large volume tyre. other than those two concerns i really like it and would definately recommend it..

a proper review at last , cheers
  • Just ordered one so will report back once fitted, might team it with my RapidRacer NeoGuard for full facial protection !
  • I ordered one today too. I'm less concerned about mud in my face and more interested in keeping sh*te off my fork stanchions.
  • Cheers for the independent review 'hyperman'.
The opaque ones have finally arrived, which are available with black or white velcro!!!! Images will be uploaded in the next day or two.
Another independent review can be found at http://www.muddymoles.org.uk

  • Well my one arrived and no matter what I do, it just will not fit my Lyriks.
They have rather complex curves at the top of the fork lowers that the fender just cant handle, even with umpteen cable ties.
Battled with it for over an hour before it went in the bin.
  • ive got mine fitted and it works brilliantly, on both my revelation xc fork and my argyles, the discreetness of it is brilliant on the 4x track as it keeps the muck out of my teeth when i'm really concentrating on a run, as for deep mud and other, well its better than nothing but the forward flying mud can still get you, i reckon with a neo gaurd fitted as well it would be brilliant, and joe, did you not try a hole punch and some zip ties before wasting your £7? there is a recession on you know!

final point, you can say you can make them yourself and they aren't good value as much as you like, but this is a brittish company, making stuff in britan, using recycled packaging, the cycle industry needs these people and well done to darwin for their success!
  • It already had 5 zip ties covering it. The last thing I was going to do was start punching holes and sticking more on it, it already looked home made as it was.
I'll stick with my neoguard, at least it actually fits like it says it does.
  • Fitted mine last week and took it out in the rain over the weekend.. works pretty well limiting the crud flung into your face but did get a bit clogged by thick mud on a couple of occasions.

On the whole I reckon it's worth the cost.. but think i'll be punching a few more holes in mine so I can cable tie it so it follows the shape of my forks more tightly, thus giving a bit more clearance.

I fitted one front and rear last week.

Does the job at both ends (AND keeps headset/rear of crown clean, which is what I wanted as much as face protection), but the rear doesn't protect my front mech etc as I wanted it to.

I'm going to see if I can lay my hands on some similar plastic and make my own from the rear. One that goes to the bottom of the seat tube.

I'll get some more plastic and using one of the ones I have as a template I'll make some more.
  • Ordered one today, hopefully it'll work with my 66s. Will try to get some pics up then it's all fitted.

Glad you brought this up, I was on the verge of getting one for my Sanction, which has lyriks.....
