Indeed. For example, the Beeb totally buried the "Cash for honours" story, and certainly didn't report every twist and turn with obvious glee.

    Oh, wait a minute...

Similarly, the way the BBC and New Labour had a total love-in during the run-up to the Iraq War. I mean, Andrew Gilligan and Gavin Hewitt were virtually in bed with Alistair Campbell!

I believe the infamous "dodgy dossier" was actually about how much Tony Blair loved watching Bargain Hunt just before PMQs.

And look what happened to Gilligan!

Didn't he get stranded on a desert island :?:

Nasahapley, in what way is my comment ironic because it's on BR? Listen folks, if you think Labour is doing a tip top job, feel free to articulate that via the ballot box next May! Just thought I'd add a little to the mediacentric flavour of this thread!

This thread's claims on a place in Pro Race were tenuous from the start, but since you hijacked it with your searing political insight, jkm, it really has lost the plot. Take it somewhere else.

I find it amazing how you can have such a detailed debate about a sport. Who cares about the sponsors or their motives, just as long as the cycling is exciting.

And I do work for both Sky and the BBC..;-)

  • Think of it this way.... if the team was sponsored by "electric stun guns 'r' us made specifically for countries with dodgy human rights" then yes I probably wouldn't support them. However Sky provide telly through a satellite dish. Some good telly, lots of repeats and some telly that is absolutely pants.

If you scratch the surface of any big company you will find some unpleasant practices. Can't hear anyone shouting I would never support Silence-Lotto because of their testing on animals or Quickstep's destruction of the rainforests, Radioshak's contribution to the depletion of the ozone layer, Cervelo's carbon footprint (maybe by making lots of carbon fibre frames they have a positive impact on the environment :? ) - btw I honestly do not know if any of these statements are true.

At the end of the day we, collectivley as British cyclists, should be very pleased that a massive multinational is investing in our sport at grass roots level (Skyride Manchester was a fantastic experience for me and the kids) and also at the highest level. It shows how far British cycling has come that people are complaining about who is sponsoring the 'British' protour team; the British sprinter who is more than a bit good that keeps winning; and a Brit with a dodgy haircut coming fourth in the Tour. Think back to the days when we had no-one to cheer on C4 coverage of the tour.

    Agreed

Some people just spend too much time worrying about things that are pointless.
