When doing intervals what zone ie heart rate level do you go to do you go into the anerobic level whilst doing that interval then drop back down into aerobic then whilst you recover (hope i have explained that correct)

depends what you're trying to achieve.
For lactate tolerance then yes.0 -
HR response is far too slow to indicate when you have gone into using primarily anaerobic metabolism. By the time it gets very high, you will have already finished and been done with working anaerobically.0

When I do intervals it takes about a minute to get up to the correct range, so any interval less than 1 min it is pointless to use HR.
For intervals of 2 mins or less, I will use RPE, or judge it on wheel speed on the turbo. My turbo has a power reading, but take that reading with a pinch of salt, though I think mine is fairly repeatable.0 -
I think it's only possible to cycle anaerobically for a few seconds max and your HR is slow to react to changes in power, so would be useless here.0

Alex would probably be best to say, but I think anything up to 30 secs is likely to be mainly anaerobic in nature, but even 1 to 2 mins, uses the anaerobic system a fair bit as well AFAIR, and HR is not the best method to use.0
