Install a programmable thermostat, ours automatically kicks up the target temperature before we get up, and just before we get back. And never forgets to turn the temperature down when we go off to work or overnight.
Ours is a "Digistat 3", from B & Q. Not usually found on the shelves, you have to ask for it at the info counter :?0 -

New baby means the heating has been at a constant 18 degrees since two weeks ago.
