I only use mine for intervals, no way could I sit there for 2 hours!
So after 10 minute warm up its 2 minutes at maximum followed by 1 minute spin and repeat 5 times and 10 minute cool down.
Alternatively 10 minute warm up followed by 30 seconds absolutely flat out and 4 mins 30 seconds spin until the next set. Repeat 5 times and 10 minute cool down.
Not very exciting but the intervals break it up, believe me the rest between intervals goes all too quickly sometimes!
It’s the most beautiful sport in the world but it’s governed by ***ts who have turned it into a crock of ****.

My general incompetence is causing me difficulties in setting up my turbo trainer. Do you need a spercific skewer? I cant work out for the life of me how to attach the side of my current skewer with the quick release lever. the trainer is a elite maglite if anyone has any pearls of wisdom

Get a good and powerful fan to keep you cooler.

Search Ebay for 20" circulator fan. There is a shop that does a floor mount one for £35 delivered. Used mine for the first time today...powerful enough on setting 1!

Your turbo should have come with a special one, if not try to get one that isn't flat/smooth along the top of the handle of the skewer. One like this: http://www.wiggle.co.uk/p/cycle/7/Tacx_Quick_Release_Skewer/5360010556/ is ideal. Its the one Tacx make for their turbos but should work on most of them

Might be of use. Also, expect to sweat 10x more than you usually do on a ride.

Consider using rollers instead of a turbo. You can get ones with magnetic resistance that are very smooth to ride and will let u do intervals up to and through threshold.

I find on these time passes a lot more quickly on them than a turbo and/or I can ride longer (well over an hour given the right music,,)

Setups a lot easier too, just take your normal bike and ride it, no need for special skewers/tyres.

Also its a lot more like riding outdoors so you may get benefits in terms of improving bike handling pedaling style/efficiency. Apparently "real cyclists" can ride rollers no hands..
