I've just bought a Blackburn Mars 4.0 and can't believe how bright it is for the money (£17). One of my cycling buddies now rides on my inside at night so my rear wheel obscures the light* ... it's that bright!!

    * I've mounted it on the right hand seat stay

    +100000000 for the SMART

Was called the 1/2 watt LED (no lunar, I think?). And it cost me £8. Seems it may have a new name to go with a new price.

As discussed in many threads, the no brainer option for bang/buck. BUY one. Or two!

Blackburn Mars 4.0 is super bright. Its particularly good if you don't use mudguards as its very well sealed.

buy 2 smart lights, will cost 10 to 15 quid for a pair. have one on your seat post and one on you seat stay. that way if one packs in you'll still be visible. not that either will ever pack in given the 5 years i've had one without changing the batteries

Rsp astrum, twice the light the smart superflash is.

The trouble with having an open mind, of course, is that people will insist on coming along and trying to put things in it.

I use a Smart Lunar light on the back of the helmet, using a velcro strap and simply putting the smart light onto that, rationale being a light at high level will be seen from further away than one at low level.

Also, I think its a Smart Bspoke light (with some London sponsorship thing), not cheap (LBS price £19.99) but has a basic flash with some extra bright flash mode every 3 or 4 pulses or so.

Additionally a Smart dynamo driven 0.6Watt Led.

Not pack in maybe but disentegrate or simply disappear off the mounting mid-ride....

Ok, not a 1/2 Watt, but I can't tell the difference between them and the Smart 1/2 Watt I have.

I managed to get 3 of these for a tenner.

Hmm, have had three of the Smarts fail due to water getting in during heavy rain. Switch failures also. No such problems with the RSP Astrum and you have 2 x 1/2 watt leds.

This is really good. Super bright and 7 LED's for a fiver. RRP 10.00

There's nothing better for the money. Buy 2 and mount both. 220 degree visibility contrary to the 180 in the ad.

  • reddragon, Ok apologies and well done. I did read the thread just not the links. My lights just arrived this morning and was chuffed with them. The reviews are all positive.

    The light is blindingly bright.

Nevermind, the OP or whoever knows another place to get if desired.
  • It needs to be bright so it catches cars attention.

If you want something much brighter. The Dinotte 140L for £99.99

I have one of these and a Smart 1/2 watt and for the extra I would get the 1/2 watt as they are much brighter for a small extra.

Not that they are not good for the money.
  • I got the Smart 7 LED's lined up in parallel mounted on each seat stay as opposed to the seat post. A bigger light force together.

I had one of these on my backpack, but i've just upgraded to a second superflash. You must need to change the batteries in your superflash if you cant tell the difference between the two.
