To Flash or Not to Flash

  • My thoughts on lights: Currently running an LD1100 on the seat post (one bank constant, other flashing, best of both worlds) and a Smart 1/2 watt Super Flash Rear Light cable tied to the back of my helmet (Bell Triton). After using the Smart on my helmet I have come to the following conclusions about helmet mounted rear lights.

Higher Up (more visible, lights lower down on the bike can be blocked)
Off the Bike (It's you the light is protecting, not the bike. Having a light stay with the rider is invaluable, especially if you are changing a flat tyre on the roadside.)
Easy Use (I don't have to take it off the bike when going into shops)
Being Seen (I have noticed I am given more room than with just my LD1100)
Prat Effect (You look silly, but you are noticed, which is the whole point)
Cons (Not always seen when your head is turned.)
    We need a bigger boat.
