Just taken delivery of a Gran Fondo for my wife. Campag Athena spec and Fulcrum Racing 7 wheels. It is truly a beautiful bike and far nicer in the flesh than on the photographs. I have a very nice Specialized s works roubaix but it looks quite plain alongside the Gran Fondo although obviously it is a lot lighter. The Campag Athena is superb.0

Is it the same frame as the sportive?
Dave0 -
cant tell for sure but it looks the same, and i think i read gran fondo is italian for cyclo sportive? prefer the GF colour tho
i'm considering their ready spec'd ultegra version for £1199 alto i wanted red/black fulcrum racing 7s as well
any pics Derek?Crafted in Italy apparantly0 -
I take it there's no black bar tape available at Ribble for the promo pictures
I think there's a few differences, the Sportive looks like it has a straight fork and the Sportive's back end looks a little shorter.
Oh yes, and both paint jobs need a major rethink :shock:0 -

mmm just like them yep
with the exception of the saddle i must of spec'd that exact bike about 5 times and backed out at the checkout page.
however think i was wrong as the gran fondo frame is different. similar but not the same frame
lack of interest concerns me but i think i'm gonna take the plunge
just wish i got this actual bike lol

I think Pianoman is correct in describing the differences between the sportive. We originally ordered the sportive but were given the option of the Gran Fondo with the Fulcrum's. I found Ribble incredibly helpful unlike some buyers apparently.
You can spec it almost how you wish including black bar tape and various combinations of tyre colours even. What you cannot see from the Ribble pictures is the beautiful almost sculpted carbon chainstay and seatstay. It is hard to describe but we have had loads of positive comments so far.
It rides well, direct and comfortable. Long term if I were to change anything it would be to go for Dura-Ace wheels or Fulcrum Zero's if I could afford them! but so far we are happy and I am thinking of getting one as well as I am quite envious.0 -
It's amazing how many of you are so keen on buying carbon bikes with the winter fast approaching! Ribble must love you people :P
Just remember, a curved fork is much more comfortable than a straight one over a long ride, and I don't really see how the straight fork is "faster" unless you'#re sprinting for a finish line.0 -
i'm only considering ordering now because come january i dont want a 2 month wait
I'll be using my Giant scr for the rest of this year and start of next for sure. plus i wanted the fulcrum R7s to go on the giant and buy something else for the ribble. anyway we'll see. would still love to see a few real pics of this bike
didnt realise about a straight fork being faster... too be honest i thought it had more to do with your legsCrafted in Italy apparantly0 -

Dave,
Not meaning to be picky, but are you comfortable when on your drops?
Can you reach the brakes easily from the drops?
The bars just appear to need to be rotated down a little...
Looks very nice thoughStart with a budget, finish with a mortgage!0 -
hey guys,
i've been waiting for pay day to purchase the Dedacciai Nero RC frame from Ribbles and was on the site tonight to have yet another look and have just spotted the much better looking Gran Fondo. Correct me if i'm wrong but i think that this is Dedacciai's Ribelle frame http://www.dedacciai.net/eng-frame-cycl ... ibelle.php
I'm going to ask Ribble tomorrow as it doesn't state that it is a Deda frame only that it was a partnership. Though i'm pretty sure that's what it is.
I'm massively considering going for that frame now. Excellent paint job

Hey,
I am in 2 minds as to what to go for here. I am looking at the Limited Edition Boardman, the Gran Fondo and the Planet X. I weigh approx. 15 stone and have read reports that the Planet X carbon bike flexes a fair bit when giving it stick. I am looking to do sportive rides on it and just pleasure riding, not racing. For the money the Planet X with Sram Red groupset for £1600 is a great price, the Fondo at £1200 with Ultegra is also great value. I know the reports from Cycling magazines have praised the Boardman, but just worried that the Sram groupset will let it down. What are your views, thanks. The Fondo is a lovely looking bike though. Has anyone ridden one yet?

Any chance of a pic of the full built gran fondo? Goin to ribble on sat fomr a look. I'm seriously interested in this bike.0
-
seems like nobody has a pic of one
i've emailed ribble for some final info but i know how useless they can be at times on the old email replies.
my guess is the saddle and stem come black, the seat post is just a basic carbon post the same parts as those fitted to the sportive above, and the rs20 wheel set is black and not quite as tasty as the cosmics. just waiting for payday really then i think i'll put an order inCrafted in Italy apparantly0 -
Sold my dh bike last week so have the money burnin a hole in my pocket, just don't want to buy a donkey for my first road bike. Had my eye on the sportive for a while but saw this on the web site last week and it's all up in the air! Not 100% on the road stuff as it is!!!0

Correct me if i'm wrong but i think that this is Dedacciai's Ribelle frame http://www.dedacciai.net/eng-frame-cycl ... ibelle.php
The link you have posted is indeed the Deda Ribelle but I very much doubt it is the same frame as the Gran Fondo which is too cheap to be a Deda frame anyway. It wouldn't make sense either as Ribble still sell the Ribelle frame as another option.
I believe Ribble are bringing out a new Deda Ribelle frame soon though possibly with an integrated seatmast.0 -

Yeah its also having a new paint. I'd have bought that straigh away if they'd had it there job as the current one is pants. I know this cos when I went to Ribble to look at the bikes I had a good chat with the guy there as I liked the frame but wasn't sold on the graphics and he told me there will be a brand new version in the new year and it looks fantastic. The grand frondo does look like it though and is certainately a very nice bike. I'd have got it straight away if it was there the other month when I went.Bianchi. There are no alternatives only compromises!
I RIDE A KONA CADABRA -would you like to come and have a play with my magic link?0 -
Anyone got any idea of what kind of guarantee Ribble offer on their road frames?
It's all very well it being cheap but if it's guaranteed for a week then that's no good. :?:0 -
No guarantee terms stated. best of luck if it proves faulty.0

uk trading standards would have something to say about that i think
anything purchased new at full price has to be fit for purpose.but if you fuck it up then its your own faultCrafted in Italy apparantly0 -
i got the geometry sheet from Ribble today and it is dfeinitely the same as the Ribelle. I don't know why the price is different but there we are.0
-
so is it just the 2010 version of the sportive?0
-
More likely a 2010 version of the Ribelle with a new paint scheme (more involved paint scheme could account for some of the increased cost through longer time in the booth, as could potentially higher trade cost from Deda due to poor Euro at the moment )
The Sportive is a completely different frame - a Pedal Force (QS2 I believe from memory)0 -

RS2 I think.

Doesn't look like it.
The geometry is different. I take a 55cm top tube, which is a M in the Sportive but an L in the Gran Fondo, giving me a stupidly tall 173mm head tube. :?
The Sportive with a 55cm TT has a 145mm head tube - much more sensible.
Looks like I'll be going for the Sportive!BMC Pro Machine | Ribble Gran Fondo | Planet-X SL Pro Carbon | Specialized Langster 2008 | Ribble Winter Sloping | Trek 8000 | Onza Blade 2009

Sorry if I sound a bit numb I'm new to road but does that mean you'll be sat upright a bit more?0
-
i was in ribble today picking up some bits - I have to say - the gran fondo is a stunning bike!
no really - i'll use that word again - STUNNING!
it's on a rack in the middle of the shop - with the wheels and chorus11 as in that picture - that is the only one they have at the moment - rest are due to start coming in next week apparently. It's slightly racier (in geometry) than the sportive - it has thicker tubing - in particular the chainstays which have a triangulated section to them and look really quite beefy in the flesh - the paint job is nice and looks great and the finish quality looks great too - it makes the 'sportive' over in the corner look a bit "plain jane"
very nice - I am sure they will sell a lot of them.0 -
Off over to have a look on sat, are they still trading from the warehouse? Is it easy to find too?0
-
no - not really easy to find - just remember the unit number and then you will find the back of it - and then go round the side (probably back the way you came) to find the 'front door'0
