it’s all fair comment. once you are in the public eye, and get well paid as a result, then you have to take the good with the bad. Either way you will drive yourself demented.
Not that I'm a fan of Armstrong, but some of the stuff aired on him on this site is far more controversial and cutting than the speculation over whether Cav's bedroom antic's do or do not include some tall Italian twice his height or whether there is any truth to the rumour that he was in fact dumped by Melissa as a result of his cycling related impotency.
The likes of Wiggins likes to take a stab back at his critics via twitter, fair play to him, but either way...they have to take the good with the bad.0 -
Obviously joking about the impotency Cav....
but that italian is at least twice your height!!0 -

Jeff, Daniel, are you reading this? This is what the people want!!!
Reminds me that one of the Italian newspapers did a feature in their Saturday edition a couple of years ago about English footballers WAGs. They managed to fill a double page spread with just Liverpool FC players trophy-wives, in the predictable ultra-tacky party outfits that no paper in the UK would dare publish.0 -
When Cav is 300 m from the finish line, just about to make the jump off his team mate's wheel and fight for victory, what does it matter who his girlfriend is?
Is this our business anyway?0 -
If you don't want people to comment on your private life then you should not be stupid enough to write a book laying out all the details of your private life for the public's consumption. Cav chose to write the book for some reason -- his bloated ego needing stroking or his wallet needing padding -- so now he has to take the consequences.0

Gentlemen, I give you the articulate Felix Lowe article....he has a fair bit to say on the new suave cav.
http://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/22102009/ ... stuff.html
a classic line for sure... “The book itself was as so-so as you would expect from someone about as articulate as Wayne Rooney's armpit, containing the expected scattergun of arrogant boasting...”
Then he hands it over to Mr. C(h)av to say in his own words in a heartfelt message to his then-girlfriend Melissa:
"Lissie, you were there when I was a 16-year-old scally with no money and sometimes even less charm, and you're still there for me now that I'm a lot older but unfortunately, on occasions, no less of an arsehole," his ghost-writer wrote.
"I won't make it up to you with this book or this dedication; I can only hope that I might by loving you and thanking you for being the best thing in my life."0 -
I feel that one's choice of car says a lot about one's personality. I didn't know what an Audi R8 was. (Although I could have guessed it would be some sort of penis-extension wankmobile designed to appeal to the motoring 'Ubermenschen'). A quick search found a test of one on the Independent's site. Their verdict? 'Best for: Attention seekers'. It all makes sense. Even his book was called 'Boy racer' wasn't it? How apt.
P.s. I have just found a picture of Cavendish out in his new 'motor'.

Articulate? Articulate in a bitchy, snipey way for sure. That article is the very embodiment of what we British do best - moan and bitch about one of our own whos young, successful and rich. Comparing Cavendish to Clooney and Clive Owen is ridiculous and lazy 'journalism' of the worst kind. Felix Lowe is clearly a bitter, jealous man with his own self esteem issues if he has to spend so much time and column inches poorly masking his hate for Cav. In many ways almost as nasty an article as the Jan Moir peice on Stephen Gately.
Good luck Cav, and do what you want and enjoy it - the difference between you and the snipers is that you earnt it.\'You Come At the King,You Best Not Miss\'0 -

Of course nobody here has obvious faults...now where did I leave those stones?
My response to you Bernie is the same given to me by my Valverde worshipping buddies who boast about his triumphant Vuelta victory - if you can't deal with it don't watch. Cuts both ways.\'You Come At the King,You Best Not Miss\'0 -
Ok, my point is this (which I think was humorously reinforced by the Felix Lower article) is that although he is clearly an immense talent, he is also a bit of an immature toe rag who should be admired for his speed and nothing else. Unfortunately, and I do mean this, is that the sheen has come off him since he started dressing like a Big Brother wannabe and dumped his long term girlfriend.
He says himself that he was to marry his long term girlfriend in October this year etc... and since the Dave Millar wedding, the forum naturally asked the question, what about C(h)AV, did he get married?
People break up, that’s life, but when you have a book that is out less than 6 months and is explicitly dedicated to his wife-to-be, then a few stage wins letter, some chin wagging with Armstrong, ego massaging by every magazine going and hey-presto all of a sudden he seems to have turned into a bell-end prima-donna.
Hopefully he does not go down the road of Pippo Pozzato and have a complete transformation...0 -
Is Cav the new Cippo?
He's done the bike part of it - now he's concentrating on the lifestyle bit
Good luck to him. Cippo left a big gap when he retired.Expertly coached by http://www.vitessecyclecoaching.co.uk/

FFS he's 24, if he wants to be immature let him. If he wants to spend money on a white suit and a flash car, let him. If he wants to declare his undying love to a woman, then end up with another within a few months, that's fine.
It's called growing up, making mistakes, and learning. The unfortunate thing is he has to do it in the glaze of the cycling public eye (after all the anyone not interested in cycling has no idea who he is).
I'd hate to think of what few people interested made of me as a significantly less wealthy 24 yo, what I wore and of my choice of girlfriends (the car was a basic 1.1, un-boy racer Citroen Saxo so no chance of a comparison there!). Even so a few years later I've managed to grow up a little, have managed to get by OK, and learned a few things from my past, so it's all good.
As for writing a book, make the most of it while your popular and you can I say. He's got another 10-12 years ahead of him if he's lucky, before he has to think of a new career path. Anything that helps future investments or his pension will be a help for later on.0 -

Ah, the backlash begins ahead of the 'difficult third season'.
TBH, it's probably the usual scenario of a relationship not surviving changing circumstances. He needs to be based in continental Europe (Italy or wherever) and whatshername, if she's anything like my cousin who lives in Douglas, perhaps just isn't happy away from the security and familiarity of the island. Happens all the time. Sad, but c'est la vie.0 -

Aw, I'm still so in love with him, Chav or Cav- he HAD to wear the hideous white suit for the ceremony. I forgive him (like he's ever going to find out, and won't give a monkeys what I think anyway).
Still narked with him over leaving Melissa though ( nothing to add- all been said before). Unless she chucked him and he's on the rebound.
But he gains mega brownie points for sitting by his friend's bedside each day.0 -

Am I alone in the (disturbing) fact that the Garzelli pic makes me think of this Lucy Montgomery character?
