Ride - Leave them all behind

OMG. I forgot all about Ride, I even had a long sleeve T with the letters of the band in square boxes, in corresponding colours of the first 4 EP's.

Nowhere is an excellent album, and I am now off up into the loft to dig it out.

    God bless you. :D

The thread title says "or artists"... yet no-one's mentioned the Delgados!

Umm, I mentioned them in my intro to the thread.

Oops, so you did. Their albums had cycling references too... one was called "Peloton" and another was "the Great Eastern", which is (was?) apparently a race in Scotland.

Always thought the latter might be an I.K. Brunel reference myself, but there you go. And no-one yet seems to have mentioned Half Man Half Biscuit's "A Lilac Harry Quinn" which seemed a blindingly obvious one!

Die Prinzen – Mein Fahrrad (song about feeling good about having a bike)

    Part translation:
Oh how I love my bicycle
    Why, I don’t exactly know,
I’ll be faithful to my bike
    In contrast to my wife,
    ….
    Every monkey drives a Ford
    Every idiot drives a Porsche

    Every dunce a Jaguar,
    Only connosieurs rides bike
    And are always quicker there

Jango Edwards – Bicycle Seat (song about a different job)

    Part of lyrics:
When I was a little boy
My momma, she said to me
Son, When you get big grow up
    What you wanna be

There's one job I'd like to have,
    You can never beat
To be bolted to a chrome frame and be a bicycle seat

Yves Montand - A Bicyclette (about childhood romance, from before my time but still heard on French radio today)

    Part translation:
We left early in the morning

    On bikes
    We were all good mates
There was Fernand and there was Firmin

    And then there was Paulette
We were all in love with her

Lino Carballo - Heroes (song about a few great cyclists, even Agostinho gets a mention)

    Part translation:
The thing the great Merckx was afraid of
Was to see Fuente climb and attack

Who is this bald rider, the one with the handkerchief?
Who is that making a break? It's Pantani. Il Pirate!

Kaiser Chiefs' My Kind Of Guy contains a good few cycling references (http://lyrics.doheth.co.uk/songs/kaiser ... of-guy.php) which may well relate to an episode in one of the band members' younger years (as one or two of the other Yours Truly, Angry Mob tracks do).

The Smiths video for "Stop me if you think youv'e heard this one before" has a lot of small Mozzear and Morrisey cycling. I know it doesn't count, but any excuse. :D

On that basis I remember that the Style Council were very keen on cycling at one point - they donned lycra gear and rode bikes in one of their videos - can't eremember which one though.
