Cycling 'Themed' Songs Or Artists....
all show no go

It's that time of year when I dig out my rusty old Tacx turbo trainer and bore myself silly for an hour and ruin the laminate flooring in the conservatory with my stinky sweat. More important than trying to stay reasonably fit is knowing what tunes to listen to whilst i'm on the turbo and the better half is watching Corrie or naffing about on Facebook. I normally listen to stuff like The Crystal Method for banging dance stuff or poppy indie like The Enemy. What i'd like to do though, is knock together a compilation that is loosely themed around cycling. It could be the name of the band ( The Delgados, Abdoujaporov etc) or it could be the song (Tour de France by Kraftwerk or The Bicycle Song by Queen for example). Any recommendations, however tenuous or just plain daft would be most appreciated and would brighten up an hour of my life on a turbo trainer a few evenings a week.

Very tenuous, but I recall a montage that Channel 4 did for the 1987 or 1988 Tour de France that used Terence Trent D'Arby's "Seven More Days" song. The mountains were over, with Gert Jan Theunisse in the polka dot jersey, and there were only seven more days of pain to go.
Anyway, never mind that Terence Trent crap - get Metallica's Black album, and feel the fury!!!0 -

Great choice Mr D. One of my all time favourites, 'specially the album version with the extended intro. Good tune to kick off the compilation with.Let's close our eyes and see what happens0 -

You people are just too good. I've already started putting these tunes together. I've also added 'All The Way' by Ladytron, as well as 'Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head' by BJ Thomas because it reminds me of the bike riding scene in Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid.

Oops, so you did. Their albums had cycling references too... one was called "Peloton" and another was "the Great Eastern", which is (was?) apparently a race in Scotland.0 -
