I don't think it is...
When suddenly braking there a click/bang from the front of my bike. I've checked the headset and the bearings are fine and the steerer is secure.
I'm thinking its either my fork internals or my disk.
I've checked the disk but its secure on the hub... I have herd that the saint disks can click at the rivets (thats if they are rivets lol!).http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Mode ... elID=27690
I can take my fork apart tomorrow and have a look, they have taken a big knock not long ago so it could be related.
Hmm.
Just had a bit of a look at my forks, the noise seems to come as the travel gets to the power bulge thing... is that normal?

Is the disk a centre lock model? Now that we are strong ought to bear the infirmities of the weak and not to please ourselves. ROMANS 15:10

aye it is..
Not convinced its my forks now though. It really seems to be coming from my headset so I think a strip down and regrease is in order tomorrow.
If it is my headset do I have problems? Its an FSA pig pro DHthats a sealed unit... I don't thinkg the bearings can be serviced0 -
On most sealed bearings, you can prize off the side cover, and grease them up. Or, alternatively, just replace the cartridges.
Make sure your preload on the headset is set correctly. Even on some sealed units, you still need the right preload to center the steerer tube, and ensure everything is all snug.0 -
put your hand over the joints and move the bike. you will feel the difference of movement or no movement.
so hand over the stem spacers and top of frame for the top headset.
then the lower cups. then where the fork seals are.
be careful not to confuse fork travel with play."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

Yea I've done that and had a second opinion. Definately can't find any play in the headset, even loosened all the bolts and pre-loaded the bearings again.... still no play.
There is no noise through the 1st part of the travel, just nearer the bottom there is a loudish crack/snap. It can also be heard when braking hard and suddenly. fairly sure its not the brakes or the forks, and the noise seems to be coming from the bottom part of the headset.
Just downloaded the info for the Pig Pro headset and it doesn't look like the bearings can be serviced. I'll take eveything off tomorrow and have a good poke around.0 -
Is you brake cable whacking the frame when the fork compresses? Now that we are strong ought to bear the infirmities of the weak and not to please ourselves. ROMANS 15:10

which pig is it?
you could have done the lower cup in or the frame in "Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

its the Pig Pro DH.
Definately not the cables either, 1st thing I checked!
Hope its not the frame although I was thinking that the combo of big forks and stupidly powerful brakes..... Edit: and a big heffer......0 -
so that is the pig with steel cups with the 22mm insert depth and the cart bearings?
or just the standard insert depth?
as the locating wedge (top) is ally it may be misshapen."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

It be this one...
Thinking about it... when I had my big off, my stem was embedded in the boardwalk (had to literally rip it out from between the planks) so it will have taken some damage probably0 -
Right... just been out and stripped EVERYTHING!
Forks, headset and taken off my disk.
Headset and disk are fine, checked the frame for any cracks and there is nothing.
However... I am 100% sure it is a noise coming from the Coil Uturn leg of my Domain 318 and I have no idea why.
The only thing I can think is that there is a plastic sleeve against the inside of the fork leg. I have a feeling that this may be catching on either the spring or the stantions as they compress.
The noise is pretty bad now and I dunno where to go next..
TFT? but then they might not be able to actually fix it... or new forks?0 -
Give TFT a ring. They're very helpful and seem to be aware of a lot of standard problems. I'd try to get the forks fixed before buying more. Don't suppose you have another set of forks to try just to confirm it is them making the noise?
Are they ready for a service anyway? TFT will also check the bushings and replace them as well if needed. It's easier to ask for forgiveness than for permission.
I've bought a new bike....ouch - result
Can I buy a new bike?...No - no result0 -
Right I just phoned TFT who say it sounds like the forks are coming lose from the crown (does that make sense to anyone?) and would cost around £185 to fix
He's said its still under warranty so I should go back to where I got it from (CRC), but what should I say and how should I go about this?
Thing is... its gonna take agesssssss
grrrr I've had no luck at all recently0 -
damn it.
wanna borrow my 55s? they're just gathering dust in the garage at the moment. At least they're rideable. (for now  )0 -
Take out the U turn spring. Then put it back and see if it still happens.0

My Fox 36s have been awesome so far. BUT, buying them does mean that I probably won't have any more spare cash until just before crimbo :?0
-
i've been pondering some 36's lol.
I'll send these off as soon as crc get back to me.
Urgh... i'm gonna definately need another bike to fill the gap of having no bike...waaaiiitt a minute wilma!!0 -
I've killed my Fox 32 Talas RLCs, Mojo are currently reviving them for just £255! They're only 15 months old too!0

haha how much you want for em?
Might do as a temporary solution... at least I'd have a bike... for a bit0 -
I'll charge an hourly fee. £100 an hour seems reasonable! Means you could probably borrow them for a tenner0
-
LOL!
Well i'll need my car back 1st so I can pop down!
Borrow em for a blast round 'degla lol!0 -
See, told you TFT were good, diagnosed right over the phone. It's easier to ask for forgiveness than for permission.
