Scotlands looking 100mph gusts too :shock:0 -

I'm about 20 miles north from Whinlatter and its a tad windy!
Hope it stays nice for you though bud! 8)0 -

lol just got to my girlfiends which is very close to Whinlatter and its fairly breezey!! lol
Lovely views to be had at the top of the South so well worth it though.
Thinking about it you'll get blown at least part way up! lol0 -
Winlatter is bloooody brilliant.
I've never been down a trail SO fast in my life, attacked everything and just had epic amount o fun!
The technical rooty stuff was superb, just kept it railed and went with the flow... Talking of flow, it's the best trail for flow I've been on, I'd even say I enjoye it more than glentress!!
Got caught in a hail storm on the really open climb which sucked ass, and it was soooo windy up top of the south trail, but the views were superb and the down was again epic.
Probably the best trail center we've complete so far!0 -
I can only say that you must be easily pleased... :shock:0

Grizedale way it was hurricane weather lmao
Couldn't be ar$ed driving all the way to Whinlatter in that lot, so did two loops of NFT. Yes, I know, how sad can things get. Weather was a bit iffy first thing, but judging by the times of your posts I'd finished before you even parked your car, by which time the weather was quite good.I can only say that you must be easily pleased
For the second time today I totally agree with Mr Slade. I'm going for a lie down now.Frank Yates0 -

The first (and only) time I rode Whinlatter was on a Monday. I was going to Scotland to meet my parents who had their caravan up there, so I decided to set off at mental o'clock in the morning, go to Whinlatter, then carry on up to Carlisle, hang a left and do Mabie.
So at mental o'clock (read 6am) I sets off in the pishing rain and arrived at Whinlatter for 8am. North red loop, knocked it off in an hour, fell off twice and thought "was that it?". Ho hum, quick brew and then we'll go for the South loop. 25 minutes up, slow puncture, 10 minutes down. Didn't fall off. Bored. Didn't bother doing the Blue loop.
Drove to Mabie and spent a brilliant afternoon there - it's one hundred bazillion million trillion percent better than Whinlatter.
Whinlatter passed an hour or two. But if I'd know what it was going to be like (especially after all the hype its had, both in the press and on this forum) I'd have saved myself the bother and gone straight to Mabie, and probably polished it off with a dollop of Dalbeattie. Or I'd have gone and done the Glenderraterra Beck loop round Latrigg.
In short, I found it a HUGE disappointment and I probably won't bother again.0 -

I don't agree - Mabie is alright but Whinlatter is much better imo. It is much better in the dry though, gets very slippy. Also has great views. The Blue loop is really good fun too.0 -
I actually loved it in the wet... very difficult in some sections when going fast, had a few close calls!
I haven't ridden mabie (its on my list) but Glentress just doesn't flow as well as the downs at Whinlatter and it isn't as technically challenging.... IMO.0 -
Think I prefer Mabie too TBH.
That could be coz I use Whinlatter as my cop out/easy/convenient ride and Mabie is that little bit exotic (being a whole hour away!).
The South is fast and the top a little techincal but is just too short- much better when its combined with the blue..0 -
I actually prefered the north decent to the south.... the south got a bit boring and wasn't really worth that biiiigggg looooonnnngggg clliiimmmmbbb. But i'd do the north a few times just for that awesome decent.0

well we went today and had a rather good day, did both loops twice and the jumps section after the litle northshore drops 3 times, i rather enjoyed it but alot of that was mainly to do with the company aswel as great weather, i just wish some of the sections was a fair bit more steeper on the decents, but i guess i have been spoiled by some great DH riding,
