    Do you need it? Well only if you fall off :p Afan isn't that technical but it's easy to get enough speed that you'll be in trouble if you do come off. If you have pads and don't want to take that risk then wear them, if you don't have pads already then I guess you have to factor in the cost as to whether it's worth it.

    I ride about half the time with pads at Afan (depending on heat, how much I intend pushing it and which route I'm doing), last time I didn't I clipped the wall on the final White's descent and landed on my forearms (didn't have time to get my hands out :p ), luckily I only cut and bruised them but could have been worse and likely not even bruised if had been wearing pads.
