Ah - that response made me check your location. Don't suppose you're as bothered as I thought you might be about the pound to euro rate being a lot worse than when I got them!

Is the rim assymetrically drilled to match what I assume is a 32 hole hub laced every other hole on DS and every third hold on the NDS?
No - as with most deep rims the spoke holes are right on the end of the V, hence the rim is totally symmetrical and it doesn't matter how you lace them. Fairly sure the IRD rims are the same, as I think I've seen them laced the same way as mine are.

Obviously not something you could do with an OP for the reason you've identified - but then I can't think of any reason not to go with a trad 32 spoke build with an OP.

Giant mancp I got my wheels from Starbike in Germany. They were good to deal with and my order arrived with no worries, www.starbike.com

Did look at getting Lifecycle UK in Bildeston, Suffolk to build up as below as they recommended the wheels to me but I got a much better exchange rate at the time with the Euro.

Got Tune Standard RR Shimano. Whoops note rear hub is Mag 180 not Mag 190. I also got Tune AC14 skewers. Run with Sram Red. Love them. Got red hubs, red skewers and red nipples with silver R1.1 rims and silver DT Swiss aero lite spokes.

Wheels look and run great on my Merida Target 6.

Sound pretty damn sweet to me man, I am thinking of similar build but with campag and in green, nice. Any pics would be nice, pm'd you ....

ah ... what i meant was whether the holes running from the end of V up to the rim bed (where the rim tape/tube sits) were drilled symmetrically. In other words, if you look at the bare wheel rim are the holes all in the centre of the rim, or are they offset to one side or another?

I thought I'd said they were - or was I not explicit enough? Yes they're totally symmetrical, though I'm struggling to understand how they could be otherwise if they are drilled in the centre of the V (with round holes!) The hole in the bed of the rim being offset wouldn't make any difference as to how you could lace them, and it would be totally pointless to offset it.

Yes I'm an expat, and the Franc to Euro is not too bad at the moment. Whilst the poor old pound makes things look cheaper in the UK, the excessive and random import duty paid on anything imported makes it not worth the while. 7% VAT, plus the random element of handling fee, anything from 30 to 200 CHF. My son was sent a birthday present from the UK, and the handling fee was greater than the value of the present. Anything in a CRC box seems to attract the biggest fees. :(
