Anyone bought a Halfords Hear Monitor?

I did and it seems to be giving me odd readings (up to 230 at one point). It also keeps jumping between low figures and high even when I'm doing the same cadence and same gears!! One forum member has one and says his works fine but I'm thinking of taking it back and upgrading to a Polar CS300. Anyone recommend this course of action or think I'm doing something wrong?

Mine gives me similar spikes when I hold the watch over my laptop.
I'd take it back and get a different model, although i'm not sure they'll do that.
