  • I've been very impressed by Basso today, he's got a fire in his eyes
  • He will be fined 50 swiss franks for that handoff.

Commissaires car was right there... so unlucky for Evans.
  • Why is De Greef not dropping back. Once again Silence have proved that they can't offer him the help he needs.
  • Why hasn't Gref stopped to wait for Evans. Outrageous.

De Greef's headphone is dangling out of his hear. "Radio Silence" Lotto.

De Greef was in the break, wasn't he? If he goes backwards, he ain't ever going forward again.
  • Yeah but Anton's doing a job for Sanchez, likewise Garate for Gesink
  • Gap growing. Now 1.12 secs. They should let up.

Yeah, but Anton and Garate are several classes above De Greef. He's nowhere to be seen now, so he's either been dropped or is going back to find Evans. He isn't good enough to help in either situation.
  • Yeah, he just looks spent. Which begs the question why bother to have him in the break.

Silence are just proving how poor the support for Evans is. If he ever wants to win a Grand Tour he needs more support.

Tiralongo? Where is Cunego? Must be having a Cunego day.
  • Valverde looks uncomfortable
  • Evans having trouble staying on SS's wheel.

    54secs though.

Closing the gap... probably because Moerenhout is now setting the pace up front.

7km for Basso, Valverde, Gesink and Mosquera. Gesink starting to lag a little, I think.

It's a proper race of attrition now.

Fascinating viewing looking for those "signs" something is about to go wrong.
Fckin' Quintana … that creep can roll, man.
  • Great ride by Sanchez. He's been behind for about 10 k now hasn't he, and he's only 35 seconds down?

Fantastic for Moncoutie. He always looks so calm on the bike.

    Valverde is too good.

    Gesink is a fighter.

    Basso....

Evans, shame he had to lose that time, although he certainly didn't have great legs, as Alejandro said.

Sanchez; great riide to claw back time.

Mosquera; I hope he gets a podium place.

    Hoogerland! Up to 12th overall.

Amael Moinard up to 9th overall. Quick, give that man a pay rise and a l'Equipe interview where they call him the next great French hope! (<-Edit: OK, I was looking at the wrong page.)

Danielson must have blown biiiiiiiig style.
  • Attrition and bad luck impact the GC podium spots. Not surprising, since the SN generated a solitary attack.
Much, unfortunately, as expected. Too long a slog.

Were I designing this course, the finish would be atop the Monachil. If insufficient room, the small plain, just after the top.
All in all, a bit of a snoozefest and Valverde comes away with some bonus seconds to boot.
    Yawn on.......

  • Hmmm. Valv predicts Cadel's legs will struggle. Cadel gets a shockingly bad wheel service from the 'neutral' service car. Any connection?

Great ride from Ezequiel and good recovery from Sammy. Please, anyone but Valv...or Basso.

I thought it was a good stage, probably the best I have seen in this years vuelta.

    Tomorrow could be very interesting.

I thought today was quite interesting in what didn't happen. Basso set a hard pace but didn't actually attack. Is he trying to wear 'em down progressively and get the zip out of their legs

    Danielson has a virus

After his performance in the first part of the Vuelta he certainly deserves a renewal from JV.

  • Has Fuglsang abandoned? Can't see him listed.
    Disappointing performance from him.
  • To be fair to Fuglsang he did taste the wrong end of a petrol tanker on the way into Liege
