Or you could go for a PlanetX or Ribble and spec it up a lot.
What's the saying, "you can't polish a turd"?0 -
BigG67 has sorted my dilemma...I need 3 road bikes instead of my one all rounder....one for each of Status, Discernment or Community.0

You realise the trek road bikes, aside from the top level madones, are made by Giant? The only reason the top level ones aren't is that Trek wanted the BB area made in one way and Giant considered a pretty poor way to do it and so refused to do so...
can i ask where your source is on this?
I aint implying your incorrect, just I've spent the last few mins doing some homework and could not find any evidence of this? Two rival companies in the world wide market I found it a little hard to chew on, especially when Trek frames have been manufactured in Germany for the european market
anyway, nowt wrong with bikes made by Giant, it is true they do make alot of other companies low end frames for touring and xc etc.. just leads us back to the threads original topic which was brand snobberyCrafted in Italy apparantly0 -
I thought this was common knowledge - Giant are the biggest frame maker in the world and make a lot of OEM frames for other companies. There massive production operation means they can help other companies be very competitive...which includes many big name brands....specialized includedWhat wheels...? Wheelsmith.co.uk!0

Wow... a much greater responce than I thought I was going to get and really appreciate it.
I think I am going to spend the next few weeks.... months testing riding as many bikes as I can lay my hands and go from there.
If the bike fits, feels right and ticks all the boxes I need then it is worth the money... what ever the brand, material etc!!
Thanks allCove Handjob XC

Now we're talking......not sure the missus will go with it.
am just trying to decide into which category my Spesh Roubaix Comp fits.....it gets slagged off for being from a big company and neither a fast bike nor a workhorse...what do you reckon? Maybe discernment.
Then I can fill the other 2 categories.....0
