Probably all rubbish stuff but you never know, worth a look anyrate.

Don't like the sound of the SPD compatible shoes, ouch keep your toes attached to the pedals, bet that would really hurt haha !!!!!
I like shiny bikes - especially Italian ones.....!!

  • Bought a jacket from there maybe a year ago. the zip on it is useless (theres a definate knack to fastening it), but the jacket itself was excellent for the money.

might have a look at the thermals. and the haribo.

don't fancy the heart rate monitor much though.
  • the soft shell jackets are quite good but those shoes look like they could be used for a game of footy as well!
'dont forget lads, one evertonian is worth twenty kopites'
  • The shoes are the same as last years and I did about 1500 miles through all weathers last winter in them. Soaked em, froze up, battered them over rocky and muddy ground and they are still going strong. Nowhere near the fit of my best shoes but for less than £20? No brainer. Wore out a pair of the overshoes as well. Pity they aren't waterproof, but they are warm, as is the matching under helmet hat. The soft shell jacket was another cracking buy. I have had no trouble with zips on mine, and last years had a zipped rear pocket as well as a handy breast pocket with zip handy for mobile phones.
  • I bought some shorts and a short sleeve jersey from Lidl at the start of the year (5 quid each I think). Quality not great, but it served a purpose (giving me something to wear while confirming my re-found enthisiasm for cycling). I still wear the jersey post-bike and clothing upgrade.

As long as you are realistic about what you are getting, might be worth a go.

I've bought a fair few things from Aldi - running kit is good, some of the bike kit is good too - but its just not as stylish. Although my £5 gilet gets worn more than my £80 Rapha gilet.

Will invest in the reflective bands - its cheaper to buy more sets than it is to replace the batteries, and will brighten up any backpack etc.
  • No no no no no no no!!!!!

Every time Aldi has one of their cycling promotions on, the message boards and forums are full of this tosh.

The reason it's cheap is cos it's sh'ite.

Looks crap and doesn't do its job. May as well pish your money against a wall

I bought the HR monitor and it does exactly what it says on the box. . . . . basic but does the job. Just don't look at it when going under electric pylons because mine recorded aHR of 300, which i don't think was right!!

I got some of the SPD shoes which I use for spinning classes at the gym and have no complaints there either although I can't comment on how comfy they would be after 6 hours on the bike.

So what does it say on the box 'this HR monitor is completely inaccurate and therefore useless.?

I take it you've actually used this kind of stuff? Because people who have are saying that it does do its job. Of course they might all be morons ("look, the zip fell off! Fantastic!") or simply lying ("I wasted my money buying that crap from Aldi - I know, I'll go on BR and tell everyone how great it is, that'll be a good laugh").
Certainly my experience (Lidl and cheap ebay stuff mostly) has been positive.
But then what do I know, I drive a Skoda.

    Rubbish.

Some of the items are no better than you'd expect for the money, but some of it is superb value. I got some base layers, socks and a soft shell jacket and they all served me brilliantly last winter. Just as good as kit costing 3 or 4 times that much from the more established brands.

+1 as I have had some of they kit and been very happy with it, plus will be trying to get some mmore before the Ebayers get in and buy it all

The Winter gloves are ok - the "autumn level" jacket works well enough aswell in the spring/autumn - I've got the longs aswell - dont use them so much now, but they were ok-ish at the time (strange large fit around your bits/bum and tight legs though). Might get that upcoming long-sleeve baselayer if its a tight-enough fit (should be ok under a jersey).

TBH - the quality of the stuff varies. I've got some Aldi mitts and shorts that are now 4 years old and still serviceable , I've had shorts that were unwearable and went in the bin after 3 rides.
  • Moral of the story? You are taking a gamble - it might be OK or it might not (based on the posts here). It's cheap, so if you lose the bet your downside is limited. It's not going to be great, but you might not be after great.

But one thing is certain - you'll look like a bag of shite wearing it.

Top advice. Buy cheap. Buy twice.

Who TF wants to be seen wearing cycling gear that's been banged out by a cheap supermarket? I really don't get that bit.

    I do have a question.

Have you tried any of they stuff or know someone that has any?

I have a few of they bits and dont think I look a bag of shite but have been known to be wrong, just ask my wife

Lets be honest, lycra is not exactly the most fetching of attire, I can assure you whether you are wearing your £100 bib shorts or your £15 aldi shorts you will still look like a prat to most of the people out there, and even more so when you tell them how much you spent.

Unfortunately and to my eternal shame I bought a pair of so called bibshorts and an allegedly wicking top. The top was like a rag and God knows what the bibs were meant to fit like. I'm tempted to say they fit like a glove. I'd have been better of wearing a glove. They were so bad wouldn't have worn them in the garden. Both items sold on eBay. Just shows there's always a market for shite.

As for not looking like a bag of shite who knows. Are you happy looking like a cheapskate with no taste and no style?

By all means but your bananas and bread from Aldi but Why TF would you want to buy cycle gear from them?
  • I think its brilliant. Never mind buy cheap buy twice, if you want to wear A$$o$ you could buy a dozen pairs of shorts for the price of them at Aldis. The bib longs saw me all through winter club runs and commutes and the soft shell top was just as good. Come Thursday lunch time I will be back down there.
  • Tacx boy - you do seem to have issues! I hope your actual skill level manages to keep up with the attitude. Any opinions on Hi Tec trainers while we are at it? It is like being in a school playground all over again...

The gloves are good (gone up a £1...the temerity!?!?!?) and for commuting to work, I don't really care what I look like at 0630 when people have better things to worry about, than my taste in supermarket aparel.

My 'issue' as you put it is that I don't understand why people should want to wear shite supermarket clobber on a bike. Bikes are beautiful things and then some pillock goes and spoils it by dressing like Wurzel Gummidge on a bad day.

There's a reason why Aldi stuff is cheap. Work it out for yourself.

As for my skill level keeping up with my attitude I don't follow. You have to be fast to have taste?

cars are also beautiful things so we should all wear best clothes when driving should we u make little actually no sense
Life is not a spectator sport
  • how do 2 pairs of plain black shorts differ so greatly in looks other than the logos...

seriously...yes its cheap poor quality shite...but why pay 100quid for a pair that will still get worn out over winter?

admittidly some of it i wouldnt wear..but some of it i would happily wear and unless i told people they would be none the wiser where it came from
    Crafted in Italy apparantly
  • Look, if people want to buy and wear Aldi's shitty cycle clothing then that's fine with me. It won't change my opinion that it's cheap crap and they'll look like a bag of shite wearing it. My opinion. End of.

I'll be seen wearing Assos, Castelli, Aldi and whatever else cycle clothing. I look at things and then decide for myself if I think they're up to it, if it's worth the money and if I like them.

Sounds like you're just interested in the brand and what you think cycling gear makes you look like, but that's up you.

Sonds like you're not very good at buying stuff, so yes better for you to play it safe and buy only the expensive stuff so you don't make an ar*e of it again.

Anyone else who knows what they're looking at, I suggest you ignore Tacx boy and see if there's anything at Aldi for you.
