Yes I'm aware of the whole phishing concept crankycrank, I deal with the aftermath at work as I work in computer security

It's probably just a massive coincidence, my wife has only ever fell over and smashed her face up once in her life and only once has she ever received this type of SMS. Yet these two events happen within 36 hours of each other.

If anybody else has received one, had you sent an SMS or MMS detailing the accident prior to receiving this kind of phishing (smishing) SMS?

total coincidence & nothing to do with o2 shenanigins I get em regularly on Vodafone without any sort of precorsor or warning. ignore them

I replied to a text on my other mobile that sits on the desktop and never gets used. Two hours later after replying 'claim' the phonecall came from them asking about my accident.

Them: When did you have your accident you wish to pursue a claim for?
Me: I'm going to have the accident next week
    Them: Next week!?
Me: Yes, If I can get over £3k for it, I might as well have a go. Times are hard at the mo and the money will come in handy.
Them: I'm sorry sir we can't help you at the moment. Do you want us to remove your number from our database?
    Me: If you could, please.

i don't even answer my mobile unless i know who is calling.

I was once trying to buy something on the local classifieds from some dude - not being a fan of texting, I did it the old fashioned way and I rang the mobile number he had advertised a two/three times and there was no answer.

I then texted him: he rang back within 15 seconds.

I've been trying to call you I said.

Oh - that was you then? He said. I don't answer my phone to numbers I don't recognise, he said.

But this is the number you've advertised in the paper for people to call you to buy your stuff, I said. Surely you must be expecting people you don't know to ring you? I said.

Oh, yeah, right, errrrrrr ………. he said.

Yep, I've had the same message. Yep, on o2.

Anyone not on o2 get this text? Could be interesting as my contract with o2 is up next month.

the trouble with that site is, it suggests that there are "Legitimate Marketing Messages"

the percentage of texts that are "Legitimate Marketing Messages" is 0, it's all spam

carriers won't do stop it because they make money from the spam

spammers should be hunted down and executed, nothing else will stop them

after a few generations, the spam gene will be eliminated, the human race will be better for it, pure win

I get it on T-mobile (and haven't actually had an accident).

[Edit:] ...and just this morning got a voice call on a land line from the 'Accident Investigation Bureau':

Had an interesting one this morning. Received a text from +447749641243. It says:

Freemsg: Our records indicate you may be entitled to 3750 pounds for the accident you had. To claim for free reply with AID to this msg. To opt out text STOP.

Now, I've not had an accident that I'm aware of so clearly the text is rubbish. No doubt it is some sort of scam and any text back would cost me money. However I was thinking that it was something worth highlighting on here as one or two people who've had accidents on their bikes could potentially receive something like this and respond.

    Anyone else received anything similar?
i got this text also, BUT the number it was sent from was identical to my dads mobile number. i DO have a claim going through at the moment but i thought something was dodgy about it! abit worrying how if people are in different circumstances can so easily fall for a scam as nasty as this!

Seems I had an accident last week and some how these people found out about it! I don't know how because not even I knew about it AND it was in my car, which I don't have! I'm beginning to wonder if they can see into the future... I'm scared :(
  • I'm on 3 and get this exact same txt every 2-3 weeks. Just leave well alone and let them waste their money.
