I'm thinking about it, but reading the threads on the wattage group, it seems that the joule will evolve after it's initial launch. i.e. there are things that they are working on, like customising the report screen which won't be ready for launch. That said, it could just be a matter of a firmware upgrade like the 705.
The functionality does look great though, so I'll have to see if I can hold out0 -
I am tempted, it looks good IMO.
Any idea on the cost?0 -
Supposedly $499 or 399 Euro. Not seen a £ pricetag yet.Le Blaireau (1)0

Will it be the default unit on new powertap packages? I think it maybe from what I've read. Certainly a better device than the rather limited cervo that they have at the minute and absolutely necessary for the new generation of people using power who are not interested in the maths behind all those nice little numbers they get out WKO+.
Interesting too is the new generation of Poweragent software coming out which will be free download. Looks like WKO+ killer. I bet trainingpeaks will be looking at getting the next release of WKO+ out rather sooner than they were planning to (as all attention recently seems to have been concentrated on their pay monthly online service).
Although all this really doesn't concern me as I only hire my powertap so I will have to make do with what cyclepowermeters give me I plan on getting a powertap at some stage but I keep buying bits for my bike and reducing the amount I have saved so it could be a while   Well actually I like the sound of the new pedal based power meter that's due to come out though I can't use speedplay because I can only unclip inwards and that pedal just doesn't permit that so unless it manages to incorporate that into other pedal systems it will be a no goer for me.
Interesting time and certainly a reflection of the increasing interest in power measurement devices which will hopefully drive costs lower for us that don't quite earn the wages needed in order to own this technology without having to make significant sacrifices. I think I'm rambling now0 -
I see they are available for preorder at £359.99. Have to say that rules it out for me as too expensive. I thought it might be priced more competitively to lure people away from Garmin.0

Having just bought a Powertap SL I'd be really interested in more info on this. I was going to buy WKO but am happy to wait if there's an equivalent for free.0 -
360 quid - at least Dick Turpin wore a mask...Le Blaireau (1)0

They must be counting on a Garmin backlash at that price. Clearly Normalised Power is very expensive0

I'd advise biting the bullet and getting WKO. To get best use out of your Powertap it would be best to start keeping a history and start understanding your data sooner rather than later and there's a wealth of information already about re WKO on how to do this. The new version of Poweragent may or may not be better but even if the latter its likely to take a while.
That said, if you dont want to spend the money, then might be worth looking at Training Peaks online training log. This lets u upload powertap files and keep a training diary. (there's a free version)

As to OP, I wont be getting one. It's a rip off at that price. Also think they are behind the curve. Now that Ant+ standard more 3rd parties will be entering the market e.g.

(overpriced at $300 but still 2/3 price of Joule)
and hope prices will drop as a result.Martin S. Newbury RC0 -
Just to add that £360 doesn't get you the HR strap, that's included in the £399 version. The US retail is $499, UK £399, so about an extra £100 or so in the UK going by the current exchange rate. Two words and the 2nd one is off.0
