Can I ask why you want to upgrade? WHat do you want from the upgrade?0
-
well instead of buying a new bike i am going to upgrade my gt as im only 15 and only get paid monthly so every month im going to buy a new part so now im buying a new stem and handle bars so need to know if it will be compatible0
-
and them them at the moment is a bit longer so i have to reach so i am looking to get a smaller one0
-
Is there anything wrong with the old stem and bars, you might be able to save some cash not upgrading them and putting the extra money towards something like upgrading your forks, you will get a lot more noticeable difference.
Although I do understand If you just want different size bars and stem. It's not a ornament, so ride It0 -
if your GT is the same as mine the stem has a 25degree rise so remember that the stem you swap it with may not have the same rise so the bars will be lower in most cases as most stems dont have such a high rise but you can get handlebars with a higher rise to help make up the short fall if needed.0

yer i am having to reach to far forward so i am going to get a smaller stem0
-
So what length stem is it?0
-
and here is a good site for a good stem about £15!!!! http://www.carboncycles.cc/index.php0
-
i dont know its a large i am looking on the internet at the momant0
-
It may say on it, or you can measure it.0
-
Measure It from the centre of the steerer that comes out the top of the stem to the centre of your bars that go through the stem. It's not a ornament, so ride It0
-
type in google "gt( name of your bike) spec and the year you got it
p.s forget that ,wouldnt think it would give the lengh of the stem?0 -
110 mm ive just meaused it0
-
I'd go down to 80-90mm then. Anything less will feel very different.
The ones in the link above are great value. I have one.0 -
thanks
this is the stem i was looking at put on as i have ordered the evolve handlebars as well

They are good, but FORTY QUID?! They are no better than the ones for a tenner from carbon cycles!!!
That is a sixth of the value of your bike on a stem. Not a good way of prioritising budget in my opinion.0 -
ok thanks are they all compatable with my bike0
-
Do you have 31.8mm oversized bars?0
-
yer the bars are 3.18mm will the stem be compatible with the forks
bars
http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Mode ... elID=412000 -
Yes. You have a 1.1/8th steerer. The bars and stem clamp diameter is 31.8.
The combo is poor value though.0 -
ok i dont know what i am looking for can u suggest a combo plz but they have to be chain reaction as i can checkout with pay pal thanks0
-
I can second the exotic stem and bar, very good value I have both. Although I about to sell the bars after using them for a month as I find them a little to short for me.It's not a ornament, so ride It0
-
Yeah, the exotic stuff!
80mm stem, and scandium bar. Both 31.8mm.
I paid 45 quid delivered.0 -
ok i will check im out0
-
hi if i was to put a new head set on as well is there measurements i need to stick to
thanks0 -
Look on the GT website for details. I think it is a ZeroStack.
But there really is no point at all.0 -
If you want a noticable change I'd either save up or get a set of tyres Not as bling but it'll make much more difference. The Evolve stuff is fairly hefty anyway, or it certainly was last year, it was pretty much their bog standard stuff before Ride got added. Far lower quality than the eXotic stuff added, but to be honest those bars are too narrow for me anyway
As for changing headset, that's neither bling nor noticable unless it's broken? You won't even save weight. Not sure what train of thought you're going with this one. Even my £2k bikes have fairly generic Cane Creek/FSA headsets, they're all much of a muchness, all last for years too.0 -
hi with the bars and stem i am ordering some avid juice 3 for the front will i need a post or is mount0
-
btw i have not got standard tyres on anyway0

You need to look at the bike and see what is there! Also look in the workshop section for pics of different mounts.
Have you upgraded the fork yet? Would be the first thing I'd do, and tyres as Toasty says.0
