Merlin Cycles don't know the weight of the wheels they build

Quite a few people actually remove 3 bolts from each brake rotor. That's just stupid IMO. The weight of 3 bolts vs your life... hhmmm...
Also, removing all the padding and leather from the saddle is a common one that i wouldn't fancy doing either!
And of course there's the drilling and grinding of chainrings, crank arms, F&R mechs etc. Just asking for trouble as far as i'm concerned.
Those nylon bolts are OK for things like water bottles and the Hi Lo adjusters on mechs but that's about the only thing i'd use them for.0 -
I dont get all of this obsession with the weight of kit at all. Im not sayin i want to ride a bike that weights 40lb or anything but i would rather have solid reliable kit than something that weighs next to nothing but will break in a strong wind.
In a perfect world where someone else paid for my kit then yeh why not but in the real world i just get the obsession some people have.0 -
My stuff is solid and reliable - just happens to be quite light! And good prices.0

Im always a bit wary myself cos of the ' Strong- Light-Cheap, choose two ' triangle.0 -
Good reason to be - but there are quite a few brands out there that have good products for good prices. Of course XC race kit will not suffice for DH lol, so you have to use a bit of nuance. And good searching!
The carbon Zaskar is heavier then the alu one, but is built more solidly and for harder riding.0 -
My bike generally is strong and light, just not cheap!0
