    lets see your cassette then....
as nick said, there aint a chance that a cassette on a carrier would have done damage like that!

You don't need a new freehub though, because you keep saying you have the right kind of cassette, so the ally one will be fine.
Is there really nobody in Cyprus that can build you a wheel? I've often found that the best wheelbuilders are the old fellas from the "ancient bike shop". They're like the Mr Miyagi (karate kid) of wheelbuilding. There has to be someone like that in Cyprus, right?

I had the p990 on and that was hard to get off which is a pain so Id just upgrade to the steel the weight is not an issue.

LBS out here are non exsistent the only one we have is a rip off and they use mole grips to clamp stuff ect ect and the overcharge by about 50%

but if you just quickly de-burred the freehub (which was damaged by an earlier cassette, right?) then the 990 sould be fine.

If the local shops are a rip-off, I take it you're not buying the wheel locally either then?
  • The freehub damaged by the shimano cassette the I put on the 990 which then was a nightmare to get off. It would be fine I guess with a little TLC but to save the issues Id just get the steel freehub on there so if I ever use a crappy cassette for whatever reason in the future no issues.

No all my stuff is shipped from the UK to here.

The PG990 only has the largest few cogs on the alloy spider - the others are individual and sit directly on the freehub (with spacers).

It's these individual cogs that seem to do the damage (or for me, at least, this is the case). Plus, these are the gears that I spend most time in, which may exacerbate the problem.

i hav have the pg990 it looks like it is all on the ally spider to me. could be wrond tho

Mine looks just like that- using a deore cassette, noticed when I upgraded to XT, however hub still works fine so not too worried.

Cant really blame Hope as it was clearly used with the wrong cassette. Many hub manufactures these days use alloy free hubs. My Easton are exactly the same.
