does anyone have any tips as to how to find the right saddle???

its costing me a fortune!

so far ive had a spesh alias, toupe gel, selle italia max flite gel flow, and a selle san marco regal!!!

all of which havent agreed with me!

the spesh saddles have been the most comfortable, but cause me pain after 3 or 4 hrs.

the selle italia rubbed me like mad, and the san marco made my bits go numb!!!

any ideas?

thanks!

Just a case of trying them really. I can't give any tips on what to look for, cos everyone's ar$e is different. Most people have been through a few during their quest.

Try something a little different like the Fizik Aliante (the one I settled with)

You live near me, come and have a go!

the one i got (after making stupid mistake of buying the arione cx tho thankfully i got it sold)

the microtex is a new thing to me, im guessing it improves the comfort level.
theres a bit of carbon on the rear of the saddle and the rails are carbon braided, just makes the saddle stronger and lighter.

    try a charge spoon.

+1 (maybe - I love it on the mtb, haven't tried it on the road bike yet)

That's the exact one I have on the Look, on the Litespeed it's carbon with the metal rails.

Steve, come and have a go! It may save you a packet...

A Charge Spoon is ok for me, but not up to the comfort - or quality of course for 20 quid - of a Fizik Aliante. But the Spoon does suit some people. And great value it is if it works for you.

Yes they are expensive, not as expensive as the Antares - but you can't skimp on cost for your ideal saddle because to be comfortable is THE no 1 thing for me. It depends how much you value your cycling.
  • My LBS has a full range of Prologo saddles to try and buy, I am in Galway though but I am sure there available in a LBS near you. I am on my second one and it seems to be going ok its the Nago Gel.

I have tried all those saddles too except the Regal and also tried Fizik Aliante, Arione. I have settled on Selle SMP Glider with the Toupe second. They cost £150.00 but I figured it was too important not to be comfortable.

the "gamma" model of the aliante is only bout 60quid, is it really that different to the really expensive version?

or the obviously very secret charge knife.....

I have them both and they are great saddles ..the knife is a little sleeker looking but just as comfy

Is there a market for used saddles? :?
  • Hi ......really sympathise with you......wont bore you with the details but I have been searching for the holy grail in saddles for some considerable time. After almost giving up cycling completely I have recently bought a second hand ISM ( stands for Ideal Saddle Modification ) race saddle from Ebay to try out. A bit radical in its design and some people might think it spoils the lines of their bike etc.......but the numbness and injuries have gone....in fact on long runs I have to remind myself to stand up once in a while. You should look up the medical info on ISM website and how to set up properly on your own bike. I am so pleased I am considering buying the latest version called the century which came out this year for longer rides.

    Good luck

I have found the, so called, sit bone saddles to be just the ticket to preventing Big Jim and the Twins from going numb. Also have used Selle Italia saddles with cutouts with a good degree of success.

well, someone on EvilBay will usually buy used saddles if the price is right. theyre all nearly new as it is, most you cant tell have been ridden!!!

as for the sit bones saddles..........yea no numb knackers, but just saddle sores instead!!! if it isnt one its the other!!!

Some truth in what you say(one or the other). Well lubed on those "sit bone" saddles". That's what I say. Seems to work for me.

tried the aliante and was a waste of time. good for short rides, less than 30 miles. after that, bits were going numb and after a 60 mile ride today.........feels like ive been kicked up the arse!!!

really disheartened now, dont know what to try now. feel like giving up!
