RPCC Ride - Sat 22nd / Sun 23rd Aug

And so after last weekend's successful sportive outing, here we are again...

No Esoteric80 or Art Vandelay this weekend, and Felgen is likely to stay in bed. There is talk of an RPCC fast ride on Sat but a quick scan of that leads me to believe that Voxegam & Phips will probably end up doing the Dynamo park laps... And I'm likely to follow suit to be honest as I'm in the park marshalling the Dynamo TT on the Sunday followed by a 'Mo's club run

So, numbers could be low, but as I've said before (and have regularly been proved right) there's enough regulars to keep things flowing nicely so hopefully a decent ride will still go out on Saturday morning! 8)

So, for those of you coming to join us, usual meet & ride plan:
 9am start on Saturday is most likely,
although keep an eye out as earlier starts seem to be happening now and Sunday might be favoured by some
 Richmond Gate in Richmond Park, south side (on the left as you come up Sawyer's Hill / on the right if you come through Richmond Gate), by the little white building
 80-120k @ 24-28kph / 50-75 miles @ 15-18mph usually, but nobody gets dropped  Boxhill is almost definite (as is a short tea / cake / toilet / bottle refill stop at the top - usually around 15-20mins)
As ever I'd like to emphasise that new faces are more than welcome and actively encouraged, and that applies to lurkers / long-time 'thread watchers' / any who haven't been able to make it along previously / those who don't want to commit on here but might feel like turning up on the day - please do join us if you want to! Be good to see some of the faces we have seen over the past months re-appear too! 8)

A collection point at Hampton Court can be arranged as that tends to be the route out. Please let us know if you need to take this option - it's usually just a fly-by quick hello and on the move again so if you plan to use this option we need to know, and please be on time (although there can sometimes be delays getting moving at Richmond Park so there is the potential for us to be a little late coming through). Collection time there is likely to be around 20-30mins after the agreed RP start time so again, keep an eye out.

So, who is about this weekend? 8) :D

  • Hi,

The guys mentioned on the fast ride thread to find out which route was planned?

Also any advice on what you would normally bring with you?

    Thanks

Bring with you what you would normally carry for along ride so if you run into trouble you can get home.

So that would be 1 or 2 spare inner tubes and/or patches. Pump, enough energy drink to get you back home (or at least to box hill) plus some energy gels/food and maybe multi-tool. I also carry a small chain splitter tool and multi-link in case of a chain snap.

P*nctures can be quite common on RPCC rides especially if one particular rider (no names  ) comes along. While the guys will obviously stop and help it would NOT be good form to have to ask them for a tube.

I'm happy to lead out a group ride on Saturday...

Went out with a fast run with the KW last Sunday and pulled a hamstring so I won't be pushing hard and.or fast (not that I ever do anyway).

Count me in. Gonna get a time on the Box Hill thread this week!

Would prefer an earlier start but it's not critical.

Just had to nip out and get a new tyre after the puncture during the Sportive last weekend. Didn't spot the cut right through the sidewall until it blew again in Richmond park last night.
  • Not for me this weekend and then until mid-September at the earliest - got a trip to Swtizerland to do some riding then various social engagements

    Have fun
  • I am good for Saturday, so will see you guys then. Looking forward to a good route Emu!

Will - enjoy your swiss sportive next weekend. I have postponed my Verbier ride to mid Sept - just ordered my bike bag today.

Stuck in Toronto fellas. Enjoy the ride.

Only riding this week has been on flats although went for a 2 hour ride on Tuesday with an ex-Olympian and former Canadian road champion, gave me a good run for my money and plenty of tips to tackle the Alps next week.

    See y'all in a fortnight

    Guys,

I won't be able to make it tomorrow as I have to work tonight in the datacentre. We have a change control scheduled for tonight from midnight till 4am. Bit disappointed to say the least as I thought it was tomorrow night instead. Hope you have a good ride tomorrow, at least the time out will give me a chance to finally change my bar tape :-)

Also, I won't be out next weekend as I'll be in Devon on holiday. Taking the roadbike with me though as I plan to hit some hills when I am down there...

I won't be tagging on. My work shifts are all over the place for the next few weeks so don't know when i can tag along anytime soon. So I want to get some RP laps in and try to get my PB down before the mornings/nights close in.

Hope you have a good'un especially Overvias on his first outing.

Anyone up for a fast ride on Sunday similar to two weeks ago?....I'd be up for one, if not, will probably do the 8'oclock dynamo run.

Looks like a fair turnout - not enough to get me out of bed though  . Pretty definite on a very long flat TT Sunday for me so no sufferfest if one is in the offing either.

p.s. I am pretty sure the Sunday Sufferfest ((C) Myk-ee 2009) has helped with the improvements in the BH standings for me, I am sure I can do (sub 6 mins) better with some 'encouragement' i.e. chasing Voxegam

No sufferfest for me this week, but definately keen again next sunday (I might have a new bike by then to test out). Then I'll have 2 weeks off on holidays.

Another good ride today, we fractured a little on the run home though. Think we'll need to come up with a better game plan..

Good to meet some new people, forgot how enjoyable the saturday run can be. I could actually hold a conversation whilst riding..

Ben - I know you'll have made it home, the ability to suffer is a powerful thing. That and pride.

Martin/Greg - hope you're not too stiff and sore tomorrow.

A lot of very impressive times up BH by half the pack. I managed another PB up BH too 7:05! So close to that magical 7:00.... Next time..

Good ride but shame about the puncture on the way back. Nearly ended up in the bushes at the side of the road but managed to hold it together. See you all again soon.

Did you manage to hook up with Wilf and Ben?

  • Thanks guys, great ride. Already settled into the couch for the rest of the afternoon. After trying to chase Myk-ee down in the roundabouts my legs blew up, so thanks to Esoteric who pulled me home. Chuffed about my new Box Hill PB though :D

Well done Ben for hangng in. Am sure you will be back on the bike soon to up the fitnes.

Great ride today lads, even though a few of you were reigned a bit on your usual pace..

Yep, Ben and I stopped and made it a 3 way for the remainder of the trip.

Great effort Ben all things considering, after starting off from BH I thought we were going to have a long slow bimble all the way home but to your credit hung on nicely. Not sure how fast we were going as my Garmin went flat half way around but it was a good solid pace.

Ater icing my hamstrings now on the couch watching the cricket...beer on my right side, box of tissues on my left
