Given the ferocious opposition at first, I am not so sure!

Nothing genius about forks though by the time they came to bicycles. Motorcycles had them for years so it was surely just a natural progression rather than a revolution.

mmm, but then the tech to put suspension on pushbikes had existed for decades before it was done. So not groundbreaking, but still a revolution for cycling.

    The D Lock.

Now I can cycle anywhere and still have a bike to cycle back again.

Off topic bit: This reminds me of one of my first home builds in the late 70's where i scaved all the parts, the frame had a steering lock. Had big f**k off cow horn handle bars and no brakes. I have to say brakes were a neat addition.

It sure is a great song. Not sure what that has to do with bikes though.

If you think early rockshox were bad, you must never have ridden an early set of manitous

After considering this for some time, I'm going to have to say that either indexed shifting, or the use of aluminium is the greatest thing to have happened to bikes.
    In my opinion of course.

ive ridden a modern set of manitou's and they're awful  they flex like hell, dont have any small bump sensitivity and the lock out has a mind of its own, without turning the lever it seems to lock out  my mate isnt that happy with them but cos they're so light, he has r7 supers, he just puts up with them

    How could you miss SPDs!
Loads of other things were already invented for motorbikes (suspension, hyraulic brakes, chain etc).
SIS gears and SPDs would be my favorites.
(I know this will probably start another SPDs against Flats debate - but if you don't use them you can at least appreciate the function)

    +1 for pneumatic tyres.

It has to be pneumatic tyres, there is more discussion about tyre choice than any other item on the bike.

My first trike in 1954 had solid tyres, great for going di dmp di dmp di dmp along the pavement.

My second bike came by way of an uncle in 1955 "lad there's a bike you can play with in the garage". Said bike was pre war, hand painted chocolate brown with two flat tyres.

No pump, so I decided to ride it, never been on two wheels before, by the end of the day I could ride it.

He let me take it home and for a year or more road it on the rims. You could hear me coming for miles.

Then my parents bought me a new shiny BSA with tyres that had air in them, wow !!

That's why I'm probably a bit obsessed about tyres. :D

fox forks and rear shocks, who needs pneumtic tyres if you gave great sus poping ure ass up and down, no chain, just walk to top of hill and ride it down using gravitys , and to brake put ure feet down
