RPCC Ride - Sat 15th / Sun 16th Aug.

Sorry folks, mentally busy week - been caught napping on this one...

Not sure on my plans for the weekend other than the Woodcote Sunday Sportive on, well, Sunday clearly! I'm thinking I might do my first Mo's park laps on Saturday morning as a consequence... There's a few of us doing the Sportive on Sunday (Myk-ee, Phips, Mal-inger are also in attendance) and I believe Art Vandelay is elsewhere this weekend.

So, numbers could be low, but there's enough regulars to keep things flowing nicely so hopefully a decent ride will still go out on Saturday morning! 8)

So, for those of you coming to join us, usual meet & ride plan:
 9am start on Saturday is most likely,
although keep an eye out as earlier starts seem to be happening now and Sunday might be favoured by some
 Richmond Gate in Richmond Park, south side (on the left as you come up Sawyer's Hill / on the right if you come through Richmond Gate), by the little white building
 80-120k @ 24-28kph / 50-75 miles @ 15-18mph usually, but nobody gets dropped  Boxhill is almost definite (as is a short tea / cake / toilet / bottle refill stop at the top - usually around 15-20mins)
As ever I'd like to emphasise that new faces are more than welcome and actively encouraged, and that applies to lurkers / long-time 'thread watchers' / any who haven't been able to make it along previously / those who don't want to commit on here but might feel like turning up on the day - please do join us if you want to! Be good to see some of the faces we have seen over the past months re-appear too! 8)

A collection point at Hampton Court can be arranged as that tends to be the route out. Please let us know if you need to take this option - it's usually just a fly-by quick hello and on the move again so if you plan to use this option we need to know, and please be on time (although there can sometimes be delays getting moving at Richmond Park so there is the potential for us to be a little late coming through). Collection time there is likely to be around 20-30mins after the agreed RP start time so again, keep an eye out.

So, who is about this weekend? 8) :D

Po-tentially... It's a week before my gf flies home to Oz for good though, so some horizontal cycling may be more likely this weekend though...

Rich, nice one for keeping this going - the summer months are always going to be a challenge with people off on holiday and the like.

WIth that in mind, maybe it's worth trying to arrange an end of season ride - an RPCC Ride of the Falling Leaves... If we get it planned early for, say, the second half of September then it gives the best chance for as many people as possible to make it.

We could even finish it off with a beer or two at a drinking house local to RP. Just a thought, as it would be a great way to finish the year and would mean that everyone can vote on the most suitable date and route.

ps - is that another new bike

I am not around on Saturday - I am medical cover at the Middlesex Sevens - so a bit of suturing for me.

Sunday I am free, but I didnt realise people were off to the Woodcote sportive - my old stomping ground. I used to commute through those roads on the way to work. Say hi to Antony Worrall Thompson and Liam Gallagher as they live round that way. In fact, just been out to Henley today to do Landlord stuff - I took the bike there and back. I was on fire on the way home, just worked out my average speed for the return leg and it was 22.8mph including stops! So I just celebrated with Bombay Bicycle Club takeaway  feeling very gluttonous. Sunday sufferfests are obviously having an effect on the legs.

Now that is a good shout Dave, nice thought 8) I might start that soon as a separate thread and see if we can get a date sorted.

New bike, me? Nah... ok well maybe... erm, yeah    Rides LOVELY, just not sure about the look of it... Man I need to get a grip

Great - I reckon we could get a good crowd together with enough notice...

You know, in the long run, the sooner you invest in a Parlee the more cost effective it's going to be

Probably, but it's a lot of fun, and at least when it comes to that Parlee (or Merlin Cielo / Indy Fab XS / Baum Ti more to the point) I'll know exactly how I want it to ride and fit!

I was pondering the same - if I can be arsed getting up early on Saturday AND Sunday.
Rope Mal in too and then you'll be more inclined to get up!:lol:

It happens dude, you'll get through it - I find setting a target helps, but make sure it's realistic. RP3 in sub-60min is always a good start point, but for now just aim to beat your previous best each time 8)

Good call. Hope to be out at some point also this weekend.

Thinking of doing the Woodcote Sportive on Sunday also (my first!)

How are people getting up there for an early start???

A Sportive - sounds interesting. Never done one of those before and I often cycle around that area. Is it too late to enter now?

I should be around Saturday if anyone else is about.

Not that strikes me as a truly excellent idea. I should even be able to rope in some more local compadres too...

  • I state my intent for the regular Saturday ride. After a good RP training ride on Tuesday I am keen to test the legs up Box hill. Any other takers?

Would love to do the Sunday sportive but don't reckon it'll happen. You guys will clock up a good time if you ride as a group. 17mph gold standard should be a walk in the park.

Driving. Apparently there is a train station about 3 miles from the start though.

Come along James - the more the merrier [easier] :) We're actually planning on riding this one as a group
Yeah thats Goring and Streatley - the tour of Britain went through there last year - its a fair climb up from the Thames to the start though...
hmmm, tempted, tempted, tempted to enter now...

    Damn it :x :x :x

Does not help when you have to work Saturdays as well. Just been stitched up like a kipper. Gotta work next Saturday 23rd and the ENTIRE Bank Holiday Weekend. Oh joy of joys :x

You may see me again on a Saturday RPCC jaunt before Xmas

Autumn Leaves ride does sound good. Ideally a pre-planned/plotted route would be good.

I would love to but National Rail says I cannot get to Goring and Streatley station before 9am. Which I guess is too late :x

Anyone got a ride in exchange for $

I've just got permission from my better half to go along  Will book it on-line now.

I was going to drive so can give you a lift James. No bike rack though but can fold rear seats down and lay bikes in the back.

Not much hope of me staying with the group though once we hit the first decent climb. :(

Like many other people, I am now sorely tempted to join you chaps. Sounds like a fun day out! Unfortunately due to being a poor student with no car and the situation with the trains as James has already pointed out....transportation is an issue. So if there is a kind individual here who wouldnt mind giving me a lift (petrol money will of course part hands)???? ( I live in Teddington, but can cycle to an appropriate meeting point)
Well, let me know.....if not don't worry.

Great news! I'll book now (full route) and we'll sort the details. I live in the centre of Richmond so not too far out of your way I guess :D

Myk-ee has already planned the route... I believe it was called ' the surrey massacre' and can be found on bikely

I really did quite fancy coming along on Sunday, it would just be like a RPCC run, but not starting in RP - same faces, same banter, and perhaps a little bit of a sufferfest like the other Sunday runs. Alas, the event is now full  - so maybe a cynical attempt at an RP 3 lapper or trying to actually post a BH time where the timing apparatus doesnt fail on me is in order.

    Have a good ride.
