hey all can some please advise me please im in bad need of help.
I got a second hand Yeti ASX and need to change the BB, which is an ISIS Raceface i belive, as its off Raceface prodergy cranks on it. Well the lockrings is the problem, i got the proper tool for the lock rings which are the 8 groove ones and i have also the right tool with 8 grooves on it to undo the lock rings with, i got one side off the none drive side but prob is this, some one has tighten the lock ring on the drive side so much i cant get it off at all, all its done now is worn the grooves round on the lock ring now and my tool just slips off, thats how tight it is. So how do it get it off now. i feel really stressed now.
I don't have a bike addiction problem.....bikes seems to have a problem with me.....it just can't seem to stay on.

    hacksaw.

put the blade through the BB cup and CAREFULLY cut a slot in it and then another and finally a third (you may manage with less) you should then be able to remove the cup in bits.

    think Pie charts.

nick ... this is going to end in tears, I can feel it
Everything in moderation ... except beer
Beer in moderation ... is a waste of beer

If riding an XC race bike is like touching the trail,
then riding a rigid singlespeed is like licking it
... or being punched by it, depending on the day

nearly has mate, Nick i cut the edge off like said so now how hell am i supposed to get the bit out which is threaded in side with out damage to the thread it self?
? hope the outer part can be resfaced to fit bbs again. All i need is to get the insert of the cups which is threaded out.

yeah thanks not your fault misentreperted what you said do you reackon frame savable still? as like said i was carefull cutting not to cut the frame, and yeah large hacksaw blade could do as only got tiny one. Right inside is plastic part of the cup then the metal bit, that would be the threaded part then i take it, if i cut it i dont want to damage the thread, any idea how to go about this bit cheers. :?

you do need more than one cut and then it can be folded up on its self

all it needs is enough material removed so that it can do this

TBH i would give it a good soak with some release agent over night.

But after cutting the lip off it will be fun.

    let me think on.

hmmm only i thing i can think of is getting it bore out using a boreing tool of with a drill enought to bore through and leave enought to re thread. what think
i have cut 3 slices into it tapping from the inside and still nothing, i think is ceased in tobe honest.

  • If you really can't do it yourself, take it to the LBS and let them do it.

It's not £700 down the drain, it is fixeable

Buy some Plus Gas and soak the area overnight before, it may even help you do it yourself!

it will come out. can you get a small screwdriver between the cup and the shell?

from the inside as the threads are not normall cut the whole way and the cup should be a tad narrow there where it is unthreaded. then fold it in on its self.

  • Plus Gas is a releasing aerosol that frees up seized parts, can get in Halords, most car spares places etc - about £5 a can IIRC

You just spray it on seized areas, leave for X amount of time and have another go at removing/freeing up!
