i don't really buy into this - surely the doping is just for "that extra couple of percent" - if you know what I mean.
If it takes 85 hours (ish) to win the Tour. An extra couple of percent drops you 1hr 40 back and leaves somewhere in the low 60s of placers and absolutely hammered by the definitely clean Moncoutie (@1:28 )
If Vino comes back clean, just like Armstrong he'd have his ass whupped.
But Armstrong didnt really get his arse whipped did he? Does that mean Armstrongs not clean? I wont have it! Hes the most tested athlete in the history of the universe and clean than a persil plant, why do people insist on this relentless persecution of such a kind and giving person ??

Words escape me. I'll be selling all my gear because, with a jersey like that, well, the end must be near. Bad, very bad, no really, very very bad, seriousy tacky, LOL, wouldn't be seen dead in one, etc., etc.. Glad I got that out.0 -

All joking aside, Vino has qualities that cannot be enhanced by doping.
For instance,
- during the notorious Albi TT, still suffering the discomfort of his injuries, he hammered that wet course and kept the bike upright. Cancellara, Kash, and Klodi and others crashed.
- he is well versed in the strategic gifting of stages and alliances with other teams
- he is a good tactician
- he is fearless on technical decents.
That's my coffee all over my keyboard!0 -

hahaha, yes the suicidal attacks in team telekom colours were just mind games on days he was suffering badly0 -

That's only true if you believe that they are racing (i.e. going flat out) for all 85 hours. For a GC contender, it's probably six hours at the most - so a couple of percent is about seven or eight minutes.Twitter: @RichN950 -

Dammit!

To be fair which other GC 'contender' would attack on a 3rd cat climb 10 kms from the finish?*
Others would trundle over together, waiting for the big mountains.

Indeed which is why Vino was so brilliant. Also who can forget that win in Paris in 2005??!! Pure class drugs or no drugs0 -

Definitely riding I think:

indeed, check out the ASTANA listing in that startlist pdf. Vino is there, with no number (is this as a reserve?), as well as being properly listed with start no. under the Kazakh national team.
it's only a matter of days now before he's back in the astana kit, surely?0 -
and check
Alexander Vinokourov is scheduled to make his return to stage-race competition at the Tour de l'Ain in France after the last minute addition of a Kazakh national team to the race's startlist on Friday. HOWEVER, the International Cycling Union (UCI) has told Cyclingnews that Vinokourov will need to have secured a licence with the Monegasque cycling federation before he will be allowed to start.
http://www.cyclingnews.com/news/fmc-has ... ur-de-lain
cyclingnews.com does, however, get things wrong. ie, "after the last minute addition of a Kazakh national team to the race's startlist on Friday"
If it was known here on 30th July, it was certainly not a 'last minute' job.

I love 2nd point / cautionary bit lucybears, and admire that you didn't go the route of "we knew first hahaha".
I'm sure the licence-chase is true though, but surely he'll get one absent some vindictive bureaucracy-fest in Monaco?
On the other hand, does this mean he rode the criterium in Castillon La Bataille without a racing licence? (You only have to had participated in any kind of active event in France to know that this is unlikely, unless he showed a medical certificate at the start line!)0 -
The criterium wasn't a UCI sanctioned race. Presumably you need a different license to race in pro events.0

"we knew first hahaha" is irrelevant. Vinos licence problem was reported in several dutch articles earlier. And yes, Crits are not UCI events which is why he was able to ride.
It could turn out to be a 'vindictive bureaucracy-fest' by the UCI, as I understand that even if the licence is issued in Monaco, it still has to be submitted to the UCI before the race....

Shame, they are not wearing the Assos national kit, that is classy. 8)
Interesting position of sun beams on the shorts. Wonder if he has the same on the back?
Frenchie, good luck with the demolition leg shots. It would be interesting to know whether the Astana and Kaz teams interact at all0 -
he should not be allowed back, a lifeban could have worked better, it would have scared off other riders from doping0
-
Sorry to drag this old thread back, but whilst cycling to work in the rain this morning it occurred to me:-
‘Vino 4 Ever’ is a joke.....................No really, it surely is a piece of Kazakh humour, rather than a bizarre fashion statement.
I just 'got it'!
Why would a Russian/French speaker, train on the roads of Monaco, Tenerife hereabouts, thereabouts and wherever the Whereabouts are declared, wear a strip that has "Vino 4 Ever" written (in English) on his back his front, and down his shorts, accompanied by a large picture of himself in his old Astana kit?
Has he been taking the p*ss out of a certain Australian lady who actually takes the p*ss.
Just though I had better share that thought with you0 -

I disagree(gee, what a surprise). He has "done the time" so to speak. I'm not sure that
applying different rules to different people is such a good idea. You can't say "well, we
don't like you, therefore.....". Maybe the penalties aren't stiff enough, then again maybe they are, but whatever they are, they need to be applied evenly across the board as
opposed to singling out anyone for "special" treatment. People can change for the better
and that's all you can hope for.0 -
... i thought he retired when he got busted ?... if so, his ban should have started from when he said he was coming back to race.... its a disgrace... I hope if he gets on the podium he's suitably boo'ed and jeered0
