Vanishing bruise on Calf

Hi folks
new road bike after years of a mtb, took it out for a wee run today. Not used to the position but pretty happy with how it feels and stuff. The main thing is having toe clips and straps (not going to get proper pedals and shoes till I am more used to riding it) and this is making me use my leg muscles differently.
Anyway when I came back I noticed right at the base of the muscle on my calf a very purple/red bruise. Didn't hurt when I jabbed it (as you do with a bruise)
Few hours later its faded so it can barely be seen.
I did not bang it, anyone any ideas how or why this appeared?

My first guess would be a possible burst blood vessel, but have no experience with them so this is purely a guess0

(Now wasn't that a helpful reply, apart from you getting a second opinion from another non-expert).I have nothing more to say on the matter.0 -
cheers for the comments anyway folks, went a very short blast but pushed myself to wobbly leg stage and no repeat of the bruise, strange stuff!0
