I bought a bike from Chain Reaction yesterday and to my shock horror its come down by 100 quid!I have emailed them about this still waiting for a reply. Is it within my rights to send the bike back and just get a refund but i said to them that i would rather have some vouchers instead to spend online.I mean i am only going to send it back and re order the same machine.

Has anybody had deals with Chain Reaction Cycles? Many thanks.Tora

Oh its not been sent yet............

I am not 100% sure about this but if there is nothing wrong with the bike then I do not think the retailer has to give a refund if asked for, it will probably be at their discretion. It's just a case of bad luck with the price going down.

To be fair to the retailer, would you be rushing back there with an extra wad of cash in your hand if they'd just put the price up by £100?

It will be completely at their discretion whether they offer you anything at all - they are under no obligation to do so. Having said that, CRC are a good, reputable bike shop, so may offer you something in consolation.

give it a go, £100 is a £100. i did a similar thing at a bike retailer earlier this year. bought a bike for my son, went back into the shop the next day to find the bike had been discounted by £150. had a friendly chat with the manager who promised to look into it for me. two days later i had a call to see if i could pop in the shop so they could give me a £150 refund.:lol:.
i have found being polite and friendly is always best in these situations.

Well i have used them once before and was so happy with the service that i would be happy to stick with them as a regular customer.I think it even came down in price around 6pm and i ordered it at 4.30pm plus i think its law if your not happy with something and its not opened you can send it back for a refund.I hope they see sense and just give me something i would be happy with a gesture to be honest as i said before i will send the bike back and get a refund then reorder.Tora

    Hi
I do not think it is law regarding the refund, if the item is not faulty then a shop does not have to give refund, it is only on faulty items that refunds are/can be given.
When shops etc, such as Argos and the like give money back/refunds if you are not happy with the goods this is there own shop policy and not law.

but i have to say my dealings with CRC have been good, so good luck.

+1 this is the law (e-retail regulations used to be my job)

You'd have to pay for the delivery but they must offer a full refund within 7 days.

I'm guessing when you talk with them you'll come to a mutually beneficial agreement.

ALSO, you should buy things with your credit card, not a debit card, as you get significantly better protection and insurance from credit card legislation.

Completely wrong. The law is that you can return goods as you have not had a chance to inspect them before purchase (nothing to do with them being faulty etc). Argos and on-line don't do this out of courtesy, they give a cooling off period because it is ilegal NOT TO. Simply have a conversation with CRC and ask for the £100 refund. They are a good retailer so will probably oblige. If not... send back and re-order for £100 less. It is £100 after all.

Just food for thought. Would it be worth them keping your £100 and upgrading the original bike you purchased, and get them to send you something better? If you parted with the cash already its not like you lost the money?

here is thereturns policy fron the site

"Chain Reaction Cycles conform to the Distance Selling Regulations, which are designed to protect you when buying items by Mail Order. We offer a flexible returns policy and are happy to accept items back for a refund or exchange if they don’t fit, you’ve ordered the wrong things, the items are damaged or faulty upon receipt or you simply don’t like what you’ve ordered."

I'm sure if you have a coversation with them saying that you are going to send it back and just re-order at the lower price just make sure you do it within 7 days (whichyou can do and i have done so with a range cooker never mind a bicycle) you can come to a agreement especially if you would be satified with vouchers I'm sure CRC would rather have the money than the post office. just make sure you do it within 7 days

  • the same thing happened to me. I've also sent them a emai.l Havent received a response yet. Had advised them that I was going to buy some wheels from the site, but explained that I had felt hard done by. Hopefully we'll get a posative response, afterall in the current financial climate, keeping customers happy has to be a priority.

think you will defo get your £100,just point out that you know you have the right to return it for a refund, then I'm sure you would get your £100 but as you said you'r happy with vouchers that will be better for them.

    Things like this annoy me.
Obviously you were happy with the price you paid or you wouldn't have paid it?
Shop prices do go up as well as down.Do you expect them to advertise that they will be lowering prices in 2 weeks time so nobody buys anything? If they carry on like this they would simply close.
Do youy take tins of baked beans and loaves of bread back to Asda or Tesco when they lower prices, I very much doubt it.
Do they come knocking on your door 2 weeks after you bought something thats has since gone up demanding the difference or you send it back...No they don't.
It can feel a bit rough but thats life, if you get something for a good price be grateful you got a bargain.
If they make you send it back it'll probably cost you £25 for parcel force or a courrier.

That doesn't work as an example at all. The DISTANCE selling regulations allow you to buy without fear.

The OP might find it equally annoying that he wasn't told about a price drop when he ordered, which surely MUST have been in the pipeline.

The distance selling regs are their so you can buy and try as you obviously cant view it, they are not there to protect against price changes.
I've worked in sales for many years and prices changes happen.A date is agreed and set in motion, we don't say hang on someone bought that today so we cant lower it tomorrow, it just happens.

So you understand why the regs are there but don't think the OP should use them because "**** happens?"

CRC are a good company and I'm sure you'll come to a satisfactory agreement. If you dont, tell them htithewall will start looking at Wiggle.....

CRC have had a load of my cash this year and I just dropped another 100 odd quid on bits again yesterday. Its got to stop......

If your order hasn't been desptached yet, can't you just cancel the order online and re-order at the lower price?

And i agree totally with the principle of your actions. I'd be sick too and would indeed use my legal distance selling rights to position myself for the £100 discount despite the point of sale being prior to discount offered.

The fact that they know that you know about the £100 is irrelevant imo.

Please let us know the outcome.

Well this has blew my socks off! They have put the price back up to 635 pounds!!!!!!!I still thinking about sending the bike back now i am really not happy about this at all. I take it a fair few people have ordered it at 650 and they lowered the price so they have had alot of mail, calls about it so they just bumped it back up to save themselves from refunds.I am not happy at this and will not use them ever again........Tora

This was the e mail i got back

    Hi

You were charged £649.99 (RRP £749.99) for this bike. The current price online for the bike is £635, 15% off. In essence you have been charged £14.99 more. Unfortunately there is nothing we can do as the prices are out-with my control. It is unfortunate that you have been charged more than what it is now advertised at but there is nothing I can do I’m afraid.

I do apologise and I hope this has not put you off using our site again in the future.

Cheeky f****! I notice they haven't revised any other sale bike prices. I'd be tempted to send it back, but then I'm bloody minded.

My search goes on. Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

Chain Reaction quite often seem to change their prices.

It worked the other way around for me though - I benefited from it.

I bout a chainset and the next day it went up by £5

Same thing happened with a cassette I ordered - went up by £5 the next day

I also ordered some pedals for a sale price of £20. The next day they were back up to £32 and the following day back down to £20.

To start with you were happy with the price or you wouldn't have bought it.
They then reduce it and you complain (which if you want to do thats up to you) and in the mean time they have put it back up but at £15 less than you paid.
Now you don't want the bike and will probably cost you £25 to return it and a load of hassle waiting for royal mail or someone to collect it.
Just keep the bike which you obviously wanted, ride it and enjoy it.
If you feel so strongly about shopping online with crc then use your local bike shop.
Prices do go up and down and retailers are well within their rights to do so as and when they feel fit.
Of all the prices you see for bikes on here how many are aimed at a real life walk in shop??
Sometimes talking face to face pays for itself.
