Wow, Franco Pellizotti won a baby. Makes a change from a St Bernard dog or your weight in cheese, I guess.

Lance looks like he's chewing on lemons.

    Love it. LOVE it.

First three podium - feeling the Astana love.

Will Lance ask him to repeat that in English?
Making a cup of coffee is like making love to a beautiful woman. It's got to be hot. You've got to take your time. You've got to stir... gently and firmly. You've got to grind your beans until they squeak.
And then you put in the milk.

I've been trying to remember how many points he lost when he was DQ'd - would it have been enough?
13 (iirc), and Thor got an extra point as he moved up one place

Which, given Thor's 25 point lead this morning, Cav winning (35) and Thor coming 6th (20) means that Cav would have won by 4 points assuming that everything else had happened the same

    Thanks - but wow. That's a shame.

Although Thor would probably have been trying harder if it had been that close.
I'm left handed, if that matters.

Despite Cav's reconciliation with Thor he still believes he's been cheated - just now he described the disqualification as "the discrepancy".

Yeah, the cursory handshake and lack of eye contact between AC and LA was funny. LA not the alpha male today. He doesn't do also-ran. And is a lesser man in my eyes because of that. No grace. No class.

    Go Bertie !!!!

Yeah, I'd agree with cav there, to be honest, I don;t think he actually meant to almost force Thor into the barrier at all, but that's been done to death already.
But hey! What a victory today. Faaaaanntastic.

Only concern is that I don't remember him wearing a Livestrong bracelet before either....and I've been looking.
Watching his interview afterwards, did I hear him say he enjoyed yesterday's ride up the Ventoux?? Where is Steve Peters when you need him- no-one is supposed to ENJOY it. They're supposed to suffer.

Do you think Alberto will be sharing out his winner's loot with ALL the Astana team then?

Only joking, he's too much of a gentleman.

Well, Lance is supposed to be riding for free, so why should he get any of the prize money? :-)

So Wiggo finishes 37 secs behind Lance. If he hadn't lost 41 secs when he missed that break....

Reading in other places that Liggett just dissed Contador on the Vs coverage, saying Bert is not smart enough to build a team that can beat LA next year. Classy, Phil, classy.

Scott Sunderland being interviewed on ES now. Sky will have 50% British riders, and some "very surprising" big names. Vino and Ricco it is, then 8)
Have either of them got any english blood in them?

Quite possibly. Ah no, autologous - my mistake...

Why all the bad attitude I wonder? After all his riding the Tour had nothing to do with personal ambition, it was all done in the name of raising the profile of cancer. No really!

  • fantastic ride by the two Marks .... Garmin scored a massive own goal going out that early - although it was probably their best shot.... im not normally a fan of Hincapie but his break in the last 1k was fantastic and arguably set the two Marks up to wipe the floor....

sorry about the truth guys. I know it can be hard when it's not what you want hear but........

    Get used to it.

In this race, he didn't act like the leader, he made 2 tactical blunders that hurt his team. and I don't think I heard him praise his team once.

he's a bad teammate. and actually i think it's true. He'd a bit dim witted. Not the bright bulb on the tree. Not smart at the level he needs to be to do this very complex job.

And that's why he only has 4 GT wins to his name whilst still being 26 years old. Good thing that he is so dim witted. Hate to think how many GST he would end up winning otherwise.

maybe his team weren't working for him (which car was bruyneel in on the fianl time trial ?) i bet contador cant wait to buy himself out of his contract at astana
i think there are 2 sides to this story and i really dont think contador had much choice in his actions

    Hincapie was absolutely phenomenal!

Although it didn't work out for Garmin, nice to see someone trying something different - more work needed though, as it ultimately took some pressure off Columbia and allowed them to keep their legs.

Can you say..... Johan?.... say it with me... Johan....
In th 08 Giro he allowed the race lead to dwindle to 04 seconds. It stayed at that for stages 19 and 20 and he kept AC from panicking. He made time in the TT and finished at 1:57. Ricco and Di Luca were foaming at the mouth because he wouldn't attack.

Johan was not a DS on Astana last year. Gallopin was.

When you watch the sprinters duking it out, Cav's sprinting position on the bike always looks text book perfect. He sprints with his eye on the finish line and his body low and aero over the bike. When you look at the other sprints they're all over the place. In one of the sprints the other day Ciolek was bobbing his head up and down and looked ridiculous. He must have been putting more energy into thrashing his head about than he was into propelling himself forwards.

When watching the final ITT Wiggins TT position looked absolutely perfect. In the close up shots from a motorbike moving with him he didn't look like he was moving at all, his upper body was completely still. It looked like his legs were just blasting the scenery backwards past him.

Interesting that they've both come through the BC track program, I have a sneaking suspicion they both perfected their specialist riding positions in Manchester and their pro teams are now reaping the benefits.
