^pretty similar to me, lots of 20-30 milers with some 40's at the weekends if the weathers good. longest being this afternoon/evening at 55 miles, legs were bored :) got in and after a quick shower and re-fuel i fell asleep straight away for about an hour but now i'm feeling a bit weird like i've had a beer, guess i need more fluid.
  • Most I've ever done was 72 miles on the Shropshire Highlands Challenge this year.

Long day I must say but plenty of snacking and it was fine really. Was quite pleased to finsih though if I'm being honest!!!! Me and my Girlfriends Dad did it with around 400 others. We were probably one of the few MTB riders there as well.

We did put skinny tyres on our bikes to make them go faster and the lower gear ratio's helped on the climbs. That said, I'd have rather done it on a road bike just for sheer speed really.
  • Hi Retro I do a 25mile and a 50mile circuit half on and half offroad across Dartmoor and find that increasing the average speed and decreasing the ride time works for me then you can tailer it to your fitness at that time. So if your felling under the weather or getting over an injury make your target time longer and if your felling great then up your speed and break your best time. :D

  • At age of 15, i did Flintshire Challenge - North Wales. It was 54 mile of mountain biking, and before that id only ever done max 20mile. I think i could do around 70miles mtb at a steady speed.

think the longest ride i have done in ters of time was Brechfa enduro which took over 4 hours with my team, i am trying to gain more and more endurance to do longer enduro events.
my next goal is to ride Afan
    whytes level
    the wall
    penhydd
all in one go, should be over 40 miles i hope. my longest mainly off road ride so far was 34 miles without about 10 of it being on road.
my goal is to do 50 miles comfortably at a good pace.

  • i used to live on my bike as a kid, no idea what mileage i did back then, first few jobs i had a used the bike to get to work, maybe 30 mile each day.

now as a drive for work, i have to use the bike as a hobby, so 15 mile typically, though i have done a couple of 60 mile rides this year, on a full suspension bike using cycle tracks, not as bad as i thought too.

  • I've done a few hundred milers this summer.

Suggest that you give yourself something to aim for and work towards it. My target for example was riding Ventoux and the Alps, and I graudally worked up from a steady fifty around February time, to the bigger ones by the summer.

The thing is, if there's no point to riding 100 miles and being fit enough to do so, why would you?

Best of luck, don't be intimidated by big distances though, just work towards whatever you want to achieve.... (and get a good saddle;).
  • just did the south downs way over 3 days taking all camping kit in panniers (about 8kg in total) which considering i weigh about 58kg is a large percentage of my body weight!

    we did:
    day 1: 40 miles
    day 2: 30 miles
    day 3: 30 miles

that's my max distances. Without panners i think I could manage 60-70 miles without too much problem on similar terrain (nearly all offroad, but not too technical, classic xc sort of stuff)
  • our normal sunday ride is now 25miles
but yesterday we went to Bedgebury (my first time) and did 12 odd miles and felt just as knackered as a 25 miler

our normalride is far less techicnal and we're used to it i guess

Maximum hmm i would say 56 miles stretched over 9 hours, i did head back home for some bits plus i did take my time.

Did 52 yesterday 4 hours for the first 26 miles, headed back home for dinner then couple hours later did a harder route on my own again same distance and did it under 2h30m, i was shattered though and the bike, well you couldn't tell if it was a bike.
The trouble with having an open mind, of course, is that people will insist on coming along and trying to put things in it.

I did the Great Notts sportive last year which was 107 miles, I stupidly only did minimal training about a month before and used my dad's road bike. I did it but it was not because of talent or stamina, more down to the fact that I had £150 bet to win!

I won the money but had to take 3 days off work as I had blisters on my a"se the size of tennis balls!!

    Never again.

With riding shorts I can manage about 40-50 on road and about 30 off road.
  • 61 miles with nobblies on the road riding from south derby to bakewell in a camping trip the for a week 25-35 mile cycles then 60 ish miles back (down
