Enforced breaks from biking

I've just had 3 whole weeks away from my bike due to 1 week holiday and 2 weeks with swine flu. Got out on my bike today and felt like I was dying over a not to strenuous 20 mile circuit. Really struggled over slight inclines even in easy gears ( I have a triple) yet weirdly at about 18 mile I have a th biggest incline in both length and % and did it briliantly in middle gears :? I had a good breakfast of porridge and a very large coffee an hour before going out plus kept chugging on the old sis energy drink as I went round.
Is this due to the length of time away from the saddle or more due to being ill this last 2 weeks?

Flu virus can really make you fatigued after you've beaten it. Take it easy do short, low BPM rides.

I caught a bad type of the influenza virus in December and it took me 3 months to fully recover. Flu aint no cold

Dead right. Only ever had flu once in my life and death itself would have been a welcome release from it at the time. I had a week in bed virtually unable to move, and it took me a full eight weeks to get over it properly.
