RPCC Ride - Sat 25th July

Right, nearly Wed already which means I'm late posting this up again...
I'm going for an 8am Saturday start this weekend - nothing too long, but I'd like to go for something a little more chaingangy than normal, nice and quick, maybe get 60-80 miles under my belt and still be back in time for the spectacle of Mt. Ventoux! I can't chuffing wait!! 8) :P
That said, don't let me scare you off - I will go with the general consensus and just ramp up my own pace when I feel like it. Obviously I'll wait at convenient places, and it's not unlikely that faster folk might well come along anyway! 8)
If a 9am start time is the general consensus then I'll probably just do a fast-ish and flat 2hr Box Hill and back through 'the roundabouts' or I'll miss the tour stage start
So, for those of you coming to join us, usual meet & ride plan:
 Richmond Gate in Richmond Park, south side (on the left as you come up Sawyer's Hill / on the right if you come through Richmond Gate), by the little white building
 80-120k @ 24-28kph / 50-75 miles @ 15-18mph usually, but nobody gets dropped
 Boxhill is almost definite (as is a short tea / cake / toilet / bottle refill stop at the top - usually around 15-20mins)
As ever I'd like to emphasise that new faces are more than welcome and actively encouraged, and that applies to lurkers / long-time 'thread watchers' / any who haven't been able to make it along previously / those who don't want to commit on here but might feel like turning up on the day - please do join us if you want to! Be good to see some of the faces we have seen over the past months re-appear too! 8)
A collection point at Hampton Court can be arranged as that tends to be the route out. Please let us know if you need to take this option - it's usually just a fly-by quick hello and on the move again so if you plan to use this option we need to know, and please be on time (although there can sometimes be delays getting moving at Richmond Park so there is the potential for us to be a little late coming through). Collection time there is likely to be around 20-30mins after the agreed RP start time so again, keep an eye out.
So, who is about this weekend? 8)

I will be a no show this weekend.
I want to be back home by 10.30am so may just do a fast solo effort to Luton and back. Saying that my headset is giving me grief so may just have a "can't be arsed" Saturday and pig out the night before0 -
I'm up for it again and 8am start sounds good.0
-
8am sounds a bit early but the earlier we're out, the earlier we can get back :-) Count me in :-)2010 Lynskey R230

Not ideal prep for the Tour des Cols but I am off to Paris this weekend with the missus. Cleverly planned as it conincides with the finish of some race along the main avenue I think?
Enjoy the ride this weekend and its good to see Tyskie coming back for round 2.
See y'all in a fortnight
By the way Rich, are you sure 8 am is ok for you? Where did the new found morning person spirit come from?0 -
I can't do an 8am start - or a 9am start as I am on call Friday night, so won't be out in time. I need to actually ride my bike. I can count the times I have ridden it on one hand in the last 6 weeks, and two of those were sportives...
Maybe I can catch up for the chaingang hoonfest round Horton/Epsom roundabouts.....0 -

Nope. Not ready. My training last few weeks have been patchy but have started mid week rides.
Felt much strong prior to the Quebrantahuesos. I am going to die a thousand deaths before I get to the Alpe d'Huez on Day 3.
I am hoping a week of flat road rouleuring around Toronto the week before will get the fitness up to speed and just going to have to hang on like grim death on the climbs
My soul is prepared.0 -
Dude, hate to be the bearer of bad news but nothing you do the week before will make any difference - especially not rouleur stuff!0
-
Sounds like you got a major sufferfest planned there Bernard.2010 Lynskey R230

You see he should have done a peaslake ride last saturday :twisted:0

i'm looking likely for an 8am sufferfest to BH return. I would like to get the intensity up so plan to be bouncing off the red line from the drop of the hat (also need to be home by midday).
Not to put anyone off, so perhaps we try for 2 groups? one fast, one not quite as fast? I think it may have been discussed previously.. :?It's the vibe of the thing.0 -
Yes the two group thing was discussed but it was only regarding on the way back from BH to allow the chaingang fetishists to have a hoon round the roads between Epsom and Chessington by Horton Country Park. I am not sure that there would be enough people to justify a two group thing from the off. If you want to hammer it, then perhaps a solo ride is the way to go. I end up doing that by default these days as I take my riding when I can.
So anyway, what about a Roll-call?0 -
I'm with Myk-ee - BH & back sufferfest.
Maybe take our usual start route out but make it a fairly direct route towards Ranmore, then BH then a nice fast rouleur through the roundabouts?0 -
So who's gonna be on the ride tomorrow, and what's the concensus of the start time?2010 Lynskey R230

Since odd numbers make conversation a bit awkward, and I'm well down on mileage in July, I hope to appear at 8am, and, unless Mykee continues to be concerned about my steed (she is creaking a bit), join you guys.
God willing.
Also rather keen to be back early.....0 -
Guys,
Something's come up at work and I won't be able to make it. I have to go to our datacentre tomorrow morning to repair a server that's gone down :-( Sorry for the short notice. I hope you enjoy your ride...2010 Lynskey R230

That was awesome, thanks chaps! 8)
Recorded just shy of 80km @ 30.5kph average - that's pretty damn quick for an RPCC jaunt!
I think there was a BH PB from RedGreenBaron too, and I wasn't that far off my best despite working a little too hard on some of the flatter sections before it!
Good work - now to watch the spectacle of the day... come on Wiggo!
EDIT: Oh, and great to meet you Steve (tyksie), LOVE that bike! Nice one for "sticking like glue" (as Nick put it) after Box Hill. Keep coming out mate!
CCC is on the cards for next weekend if anyone's up for it - with any luck we can get a CCC ride going as well as a 'normal' Surrey Hills run for those who don't fancy 130 miles.0 -
No,no come on Andy Schleck!!! Got money coming my way if he is in top 3, even more if he wins ;-)0

But we'll save that for another forum...0 -
Cheers for towing me around guys - really enjoyed it despite the pain.
See you all again soon.
Sofa and TdF for the next couple of hours now!0 -
Thanks chaps - and particularly thanks to those who keep this going week after week. Most of these sorts of things tend to fold after a couple of months, and it's certainly a luxury for the fringe types like me.
Also really impressed with the improvements this year - Rich and then James dropped me in the park.
I'm interested in the CCC next Saturday, Rich. Keeping fingers crossed re. work (and weather).

Oh, and whilst I may have dropped you in the park, take pleasure in the fact that a) doing so hurt like hell, b) there were a couple of times today when I struggled to get back on your wheel, and c) seeing you disappear into the distance on Box Hill made my legs hurt before I'd even started climbing!
Hopefully see you again on Sat for the CCC - reckon it could be an 8am start again, but hopefully nothing like today's pace! I've been tired and hurting all day!0 -
Considering my absence yesterday due to a major screwup in our datacentre today, the CCC is sounding like a good idea. I shall be there, and it's also my weekend off too :-)2010 Lynskey R230
