What about flat bar road bike? I refuse to call my Trek a hybrid on the basis that it has a road frame and road wheels
Just bite the bullet and do it, I put my Vita under Hybrid, and that's also touted as a flat-bar road bike.. :P

no...can't do it........somehow I couldn't get the balls to dare admit that I have something which resembles a hybrid.

    oh my goodness,

you are all like the toddler who, when presented with a choice betweek weetabix and porridge, demands coco pops or some such cereal I don't have space for in my cupboard.

THERE WEREN'T A MILLION SPACES FOR ALL THE POLL OPTIONS!!!!!!

I am sure you know in your heart of hearts whether what you are riding is a road bike (called a "racer" when I was young), a mountain bike (for going up and down mountains) or a hybrid (for going along the road and not being able to go fast enough on to justify wearing lycra and shaving your legs)

All the others are merely subspecies......

Btw, if it rains this summer expect to get VERY bored of me........
Emerging from under a big black cloud. All help welcome

Don't forget the pogo stick. Its ideal for clearing potholes and its dead easy to track stand at the lights.

    Oh, and stilts. Excellent visibility.

I voted mountain bike - although I could've said hybrid. Basically its a rigid mountain bike with slicks, so might as well be a hybrid, but it isn't 8)

I still scalp most of the roadies I see...

Its my etape top from last year - it was designed by me and a few mates and is a slightly odd mish-mash but I actually quite like it, especially as I have since bought a black red and white bike!

I'll take the good (road) bike if it's not raining, or the rigid MTB with skinny slicks if it's wet or during the winter. So can I vote twice? Huh?
Today is a good day to ride

Indeed, I'd have probably put far fewer options:

    Roadie
    Hybrid
    MTB
    Folder
    Recumbent

And everyone would have had to pick one. No differentiation for SS, tourers are roadies, CX are roadies, BMX-ers should grow up.
  • I ride a giant stp0, if anyone knows what that is?

a pain in the ass, i need a new bike now my commute has considerably increesed in distance...

Last few days have been rideing the "clio"

You should apply for a job with a polling agency. That way you could structure questions in such a way as to come up with shocking results and thereby generate news.

(Can you sense that I do not agree with your categories?)

I have a Specialsed Roadie for the rain-free days and i use a Claude Butler Hybrid for the wetter days.

Haven't done a winter yet but hoping the hybrid will get me through till the next C2W scheme is available for me to get a better hybrid for the bad days.

Might be a bit weird but kind of looking forward to the winter!!!

Well, I am looking for a job, perhaps I'll give MORI a call.

I'm getting a slight impression of that, yes.

Look at it in the eyes of the layman - anything with drops is a roadie. One of the main things people say is 'I don't like drops', along with, of course, 'it'll shatter into a million tiny pieces'

I guess what I'm saying is these are the groups, pick one, nobody's special.

    What would yours be?

I ride a converted fixedgear all year, except on the twenty or so days when the weather permits me to take the Giant SCR for a spin.

Hang on, don't we already have categories?

Wouldn't "What's your FCN?" work better?

[Edit] Okay, given the adjustments, FCNs don't uniquely put you on a specific type of bike. I think it would also be interesting, though :)[/Edit]

Fixed road-bike on Tuesday, Thursday & Friday.

Fixed CX with a child trailer on Mondays and Wednesdays.

I'm comfortable with the no-knee pervy freak thing, but where does the trailer fit in the list???

    Voted.

    Define "far too posh"

surely if it's good bike and you like the ride, then it's the right bike.
Never have subscribed to the philosophy that your "best" bike is kept for weekend etc. If you've bought it, may as well use it, then when you have worn it out, buy another one.

    I agree with you really.

I say mine's (Scott CR1 - lovely ride :) ) only too posh because carbon scratches SO easily I'm realising. The steel bike-hoops that I lock mine up against aren't friendly! I now always park with my bike on a certain side - i.e. one where it rests against the bike hoop on some cable-outers which run alongside the steerer / headset and I think the rear-brake one sticks out a bit past the seat-stay. Seems to prevent nasty carbon-steel interfacing!

My D-Lock is gradually scratching the seat post, at the top. Doesn't look good.

I'd say I will buy a commuter that I don't care about so much one day if only to increase the longevity of my current road bike. A carbon frame should last *forever* !
