I ride a road bike to work.
I wouldn't mind riding my best bike (Karen) to work and often do while my other bike (Donovan) is out of action.Headhuunter wrote:ChrisInBicester wrote:Dirk Van Gently wrote:Voted.
Define "far too posh"
surely if it's good bike and you like the ride, then it's the right bike.
Never have subscribed to the philosophy that your "best" bike is kept for weekend etc. If you've bought it, may as well use it, then when you have worn it out, buy another one.
I've got a commuter and a "posh" bike for weekends. I would never, ever ride my carbon Focus into town through traffic and leave it chained on a bike rack whilst I'm at work, at the gym, shopping or whatever,
However, the slightly aggressive riding position on my best bike means it isn't best suited to commuting. Though it is still a better bike overall than my commuting bike (which is ironically better suited to commuting than my best bike).Food Chain number = 4

Road bike here too, again of the "too posh" variety. But I like it
Some sort of winter road bike will happen at some stage, and be considerably less posh.0 -

I thought all adults agreed that all children ARE juvenile deliquents?*
Plus you have to admit that anyone commuting on what amounts to the mini-moto of the cycling world does look awfully childish

You aren't the only one. I voted CX as that's what I normally ride. I do however fall back to my Full Sus MTB (Trek Top Fuel) if the CX bike is down for maintenance.

Makes a change from perving in the bushes I guess.
Headhuunter - I love riding my Focus to work! Though I also wouldn't if I didn't have secure underground bike parking for it. That said, I have been riding the fixie to work 90% of the time for the last couple of months, so reluctantly I might have to tick that box. On the other hand, cos I've done quite a lot of customising I almost feel I'd be more gutted if it got nicked rather than the Focus...0 -

There's far too much talk of Holiday on this forum. I have none planned save for Wales, and that doesn't really count.- 2023 Vielo V+1

Define majority? If I'm in a room full of alternative looking goths all claiming to be individuals, surely by definition they're all sheep as I'm the only one that's different.

Road bike, which is also my best bike as I'm too damn poor to afford a second bike for commuting and my employer doesn't do the C2W scheme (where's the violin smiley when you need it.......)
As a previous poster said this allows me to enjoy my bike and then when I do get out for social rides it feels really nippy as I don't have a 4-5kg (est.) backpack on :-D0 -
I am not sure how to answer the poll, what would you guys class this as:
It is an old steel raleigh MTB stripped down to be a 'ghetto' singlespeed.
Will vote when I am told where the bike fits0 -

Oh shush DD :P
I fancy doing basically that to the old MTB I should be picking up next week - if I can get a good gear by putting a shortened chain straight from the rings to the sprockets, then a ghetto SS it will be, then I can ignore the likely-to-be mashy gear-changer
I'd still call it an MTB though, I guess, unless the slicks convert it into a hybrid? And you qualify for SS - so take your pick!
Roadies are winning overall, but there's still enough of everyone else not to ostracise anyone that doesn't wish to ride a road bike...0 -
