Life changing decisions. Important, I'm not mucking about!

So I've been away from here for ages now and not ridden the bike for ages either.
Me and Mrs GT are separating. Married for 3 years, together for 10. I'm happy to read thoughts or concerns etc but not really that bothered, just want to get on with the rest of my time really. Thats why I have just dropped off the face of the earth, but I'm now ready to get back on it
So the decisions - Just to clarify this is for me, its a selfish thread, and I could just do with some input from someone who has had a similar choice/choices to make. I have been a member here for a bit, and do value opinions of some of you. (even you Sonic!!)
Option 1 - Rent a flat. Buy a ridiculously fast car, such as a Supra (its been a car I have always loved and admired) I can afford to do this easily. There are some decent locations close to where I work. I would them embark on a life of showing the car during the year, going to meets and drag strips etc and also the Nurburgring.
Option 2 - I am a keen Scuba diver. Have dived in 5 different countires. Can do it, and am quite good at it. I have a contact in Egypt on the red sea. I can go there and qualify as a dive master, again I have enough cash to do this, and can keep some in savings in the UK in case something goes wrong. I can also keep my job here, career break for 6 months is possible. Then I might think about staying out there, working as a diving instructor/tutor/guide. The location is Hurghada, not Sharm.
I need to do something - I am sick and tired of Mondays, sick and tired of walking the same way as everyone else every morning doing the same thing every day.
Thoughts or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Option 2 - simples, next!Pictures are better than words because some words are big and hard to understand.

2 - you're unlikely to get another chance.Northwind wrote: It's like I covered it in superglue and rode it through ebay.0

P!ssoffski. Easy. Don't even think about it.0

I think I might have made option 2 sound more appealing as I think its what I want to do. But its huge, its a massive decision and I want to make sure its the right one, and stuff doesn't/can't go wrong.0

i guess the simpe answer is option 2 (no pun intended)
As i don't know your full circumstances nor will pry. I suggest you think long and hard about what you wish to do. I like you have been through a marriage and ultimately ended in divorce. So a degree i know what you are or will go through.
If option 2 is something you feel strong about then it is really a no brainer. Especially if you have the finances to take tie out and reflect.
When i split from me ex i moved home to scotland and it was the best thing i could do. Sure scotland isn't egypy, but maybe a change of scenery and a new life is something you need or want.
Depends on the fact if you have ties to Mrs GT though ie children!

I`d go for option 2 as well. Assuming there`s no little GT destroyers knocking about.0

if you want the above bit then you should go for option 2
as a diver myself, I would say that guiding becomes a job in itself as well, it's long days for not a lot of money, looking after novices with cack buoyancy skills and all that - but it'll still beat an office and you're in the position to do it now
best of luck, and when you are sorted I'll come and dive with you, not done hurghada yet..."I get paid to make other people suffer on my wheel, how good is that"

Ok Huge big derisions are hard to make, But it is not often that you can actually make them.
go for option one but when will you have the option of doing 2 again?
you can always buy a supra in a years time but being able to drop everything and Fark off this could be the last chance...

Spose it depends on how much of a life change you are looking for.
At the end of the day, a car is a car. You still live where you live and do the job you do. You just have a shiny bit of metal you neeed to tax, insure and feed petrol.
Moving to t'Egypt would be a mahoosive lifestle change, if you honestly feel there is nothing keeping you in blighty, go for it. Like you say, you can keep enough moey left over as a kind of escape plan. Even if you only move over there for a couple of years, if you come back as a qualified Dive Master, you have a whole new range of job opportunities open to you.
You can really only do what you feel is going to make you the happiest, and only you know what that is.
fwiw, I would go to t'Egypt, in a heartbeat, never been that big a fan of Supras though0 -
Sorry, should have said. No kids. So if I wanted to I could just up and leave completely.
Supras are not s-h-i-t they are awesome. (I've always had a thing for them)
Ed - Hurghada is awesome for diving, you'll have to check it out. I might well be in touch with you if you wouldn't mind, just on the diving topic.
Some sound replies - Thanks.0 -
To be fair, you must have known that most folk on here would go for option 2, it's (seemingly) a no-brainer, especially for those of us who are considered middle-aged and firmly rooted. Better to regret what you have done than what you could've done, or some sh1t.
A nice car would be great, at first, but a change of life, hell I know what I'd choose.
Good luck though fella, I'm sure whichever you choose things will work out, keep us posted anyway (if only to make us jealous!).Pictures are better than words because some words are big and hard to understand.

Ok, as you have no kiddies I would go for option 2
Sorry to hear your news and I hope you're doing ok. Hang on in there and start planning Egypt 8)
You can buy the fast car when you get back!Life is not measured by the number of breaths you take, but by the number of moments that take your breath away....

You are right Rob, you are - I think I needed someone else to kind of agree with me that it was the right thing to do you know?0 -
..... although, the Supra IS a nice car.....Pictures are better than words because some words are big and hard to understand.

real sorry to hear the bad news mucka.
if it wasnt for the circumstances surrounding the opportunities you are faced with, i would say you were lucky to be in such a position where you can choose 2 lifestyles which sound pretty cool.
Clearly, option 2 is the one to go for. fast cars will still be here if you decide to come back. the opportunity to take 6 months out and still come back to a job is a priceless situation. if you try it and dont like it, you can come back and start planning your next moves.
i often find there is nothing like time away to help you get perspective andhelp heal a few wounds. even if option 2 only turns out to be a few weeks or a couple of months away, i would wager it will be time better spent than staying where you are.
ps, take the pushbike and post some pics.0 -
Not even a question worth asking imo. 2 all the way.You only need two tools: WD40 and Duck Tape.
If it doesn't move and should, use the WD40.
If it shouldn't move and does, use the tape.0 -

I agree with this.....
and another small piece of advice.....strike whilst the iron is hot....Whenever I see an adult on a bicycle, I believe in the future of the human race.

Option 2 for definate, if i didnt have a little O running about or a missus then id up and go far away from this country, you've gotta see you being single as a bonus/opertunity to do something new and exciting, if you get a car your gonna be in the same old place doin the same old job in the same old place day in day out, option 2 is a mustTis better to regret something you've done than to regret not doing something!0
-
No question Option 2. Do it while you can.
No reason you can't get a supra later on.0 -
Sorry to buck the trend, but option 1 for me.
Whilst I'd love a massive change, I think no2 would just be too much all in one go.
Moving to another country with only a few people who you know, whilst going through some big personal changes, just doesn't seem comfortable to me. I'd rather go wild at home and have the security of family and friends around me to fall back on!0 -
Thanks again for your replies.
Teeth - You raise a good point. re the bike. I might well need the bike when I'm there (if I get there) and I can take it with me and use it to get about on, plus there are mountains a few miles in from the coast, and mountains = mountain trails, which generall means good biking? I'm not 100% but if I do get over there I'll certainly try checking it out.
I'll need some help though from here in terms of fixing the thing when it breaks!0 -
Sorry to hear the news.
Option 2 all the way.
Supras are ultra chavvy now anyway...0 -
I have to say that 2 strikes me as a once in a lifetime opportunity.0
-
I take you've no ties to kepe you here. ie Kids?
I'm with the majority then. Go for it!2014 Whyte T-129S0 -
Ime tending to agree with MFC on some of points stated, Either way good luck with your disissions and enjoy life0

Nick, have you been watching me over the last few weeks/months? I certainly have been going a bit wild recently, and plan on doing so until I decide what I'm going to do!
MFC - Your comments are very valid, its something I have to bear in mind. New country, new language, no friends there, etc etc.... I'd just need to keep the dream alive whilst I was there if thats what I choose to do. Meet people, snorkel, dive, from the advice from my friend out there, there is plenty stuff I can do to earn a bit of cash, its just finding something once I get there.0
