That's just a temporary repair. They are going to resurface it properly in the spring, I promise.0

Dear sara,
I have check the saddle and it moves despite the rust - both up and down.
The gears seem to flow nicely
obviously the rust can be removed and the metal protected quite easily -
but for £10 I am afraid that is your job lol
Cheers Roni>
I enjoyed the "obviously the rust can be removed and the metal protected quite easily" line!
But I shall go and get it some time next week, teeheehee!0 -
You got £50 in vouchers to spend and not sure what to spend them on, this seems the ideal way of using them.I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.0

Nooo, I refuse to spend lots of shiny new pounds on this thing!
My Spesh just got its first visit from the fairy yesterday, and on a good look at the tyre once I'd got the inner out, saw it was full of embedded sharp things, just that one of them managed to get far enough to get all the way through! So I might buy a couple of Marathon+ tyres to have on standby...0 -

I remember when colour schemes like that were fashionable, on proper bikes as well as BSOs.___________________________________________

make sure you get different colour front and back tyres - ideally pink front and green back. Was it Halo Twin-Rails you found on CRC?0

Well, I've got it!
It's pretty rusty in places (ahahah, the chain, hahaha, I wonder how long it'll last - and I got an orange hand from the seat post), the tyres are perished (expected that, but am ditching knobblies anyway), the brake levers are pretty plasticy - the rear brake being rather stiff so I'll see what oil down the wires will do for that... But the gears seem to be nice and clicky and changey, needing a bit of adjustment I'm sure, but not too bad.
The inners seem surprisingly serviceable given all the above!
I'll have some fun with it next week, it needs a test-ride
BTW the cables are looooonnnnng. To shorten them would be quite involved, right?0 -
What's with the green cabling?
It has potential (sez the novice), just change the colour of the frame please!! :shock:0 -
-
To chop the outer cable down you'll need a decent pair of cablecutters and some ferrules for the ends of the outer. You'd be better off fitting new inner cables TBH. To get over the new tyre look find a bloody big puddle and soak them in it, plenty about at the mo after yesterday.I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.0

Ok, I now understand about the non-nickability of the bike. Revolting colour scheme, but if it works............0
