Past few days been really suffering after a ride with sore thigh muscles and bad stomach acid. Whilst riding I'm and I've never suffered with this before.

I haven't changed anything in diet or training.

Any ideas?

What are you drinking & eating while on the bike???

Are you using any products that contain Aspartame???????

Do you get the same problems on short rides with water only???? (filtered/mineral water, not tap water)

Have you increased your training volume? / decreased your recoveries????

Do any other foods cause you acid reflux?

How much stretching do you do??? Pre/post ride????

On the bike I have Honeyz gels and bars.

Not aware of having anything that contains Aspartame.

Yep short or long rides I get the same. This weekend was a bit better legs not as sore.

I haven't increased the training I'd say if anything I'm maintaining the fitness I already have and tapering for events.

I stretch before training rides but commutes I don't.

don't know about the sore legs, but milk of magnesia will sort out the stomach acid.

and it tastes great. i almost look forward to having bad guts

I agree with you about the Aspartame

But you are going to have to explain why "special" water is required. In another thread you also made an assertion that tap water is not good enough.

I've had some bad stomachs lately as well. Can't figure out if it's the bumpy rodes on the commute, something i've eaten or what. Not good though.

    Sore thigh muscles from cycling?

    I don't believe it.

If you're having problems with recovery in your legs, try having a bit more protein in your diet and make sure you warm down properly.
Note: the above post is an opinion and not fact. It might be a lie.

Read the post smartarse I'm trying to see if anyone would know a link between the increased stomach acid and soreness in the thighs.

I'm all to aware of muscle fatigue whilst cycling.

When you say stomach acid is it when you are eating? Is your chest hurting from the acid as you eat, and even worse when eating acidic stuff like fruit?

For a few months i have been suffering from this and also very sore thighs, felt like someone was crushing them when i was trying to do some hard efforts but my heart rate wouldn't go above 160bpm. Went to the docs twice which was a complete waste of time so eventually i just backed right off the bike for a couple of weeks which has sorted me out.

Anyway i had clearly overdone it and on the verge of overtraining. This is very hard to accept even if you don't think you do that much but for me doing a manual job, recovery is much harder than if i was in a shirt and tie sat at a computer all day! Anyway hope that helps in some way.

Stretching after a ride is a good idea. If it's DOMS this linkhas a few tips.
