People think of the '99 Champions League final as one the most exciting matches ever.

In fact for 89 minutes it was utterly stultifying.

Wait until Paris before deciding whether this is a boring tour or not.

Today it got that bad, that i started to watch an old Tape of the 83 and 84 Tours. -

Recorded from the telly or commercial offerings? I've been scouting around for the '83 and '84 editions for years...

Agree though... the mountains seem to have been designed to make sure a certain ageing rider can always make it up on the descent...

The Pyranees were a waste of time. In fact with Ventoux being the day before Paris they could have got away with this years tour being over three days. Seems to me (and justifiably so) that the main GC riders are waiting for Ventoux. You can't blame the riders - it's the organisers.

    Well there you go.
    stage 1 -- Monaco
stage 2 -- Monaco to Mont Ventoux
    Stage 3 -- Paris Crit.

Prudhomme won't make much money there and don't forget, this procession is about making Money.

They have one in the Giro. The Fuga Cervelo competition, where you get 1 point for each kilometre spent in a break. Mauro Facci won it this year with 553 kilometres. I reckon Mikhail Ignatiev would be leading if the Tour had one.

Just Listening to david harmon going on about this past week and how boring it`s become......i hear folk on here saying wait till the Ventoux, what if that becomes an anti climax. . . This Course has No major mountain top finishes exept Ventoux - Arcalis was a anti climax.

I'd say the first week was a much better starting week to the tour than normal, but since then its been dreadful. I'm not impressed with the stages that have all the big hills at the beginning then a big 40km+ downhill finish, they are so dull. I'm hoping week three is a lot better so fingers crossed and all that.

The Tour, Giro and Vuelta are the only 3 "sporting" events I watch on the telly.

After the last 3 days, it'll be down to two! Tuesday was a disgrace and yesterday and today not much better.

    Sad.

I came on hre to post how extremely dull I was finding it, so can only second what was said by first poster. My girlfriend can't believe I'm deleting each stage off the digibox after I've watched it.
Normally she's constantly moaning she can't record Desperate Housewives because I've got three yr old Tour stages on there.#

Ventoux will have to be a real corker to make up for the rest of it. Somehow even the breakaways are dull though why they're duller than preivous yrs I don't know.

I see they've ditched the no radio's rule for tomorrow. Buckled under pressure. What is wrong with these guys man. They rode neutral on the last stage and now they get their own way. They;ve only had radios for the last few years, before that they had to think for themselves... really disappointing..

Hmm!! I'm afraid i must agree. In a word p*sh!! As a big LA fan, i'm slightly annoyed that my man is treating the tour like a club run!! laughing and joking in the bunch and "cocooned" like some sort of god!! I can only hope everyone pulls the stops out for the final week!!! Hell, i've even managed to doze off during some stages!

Personally i have always found the flat stages to be pretty boring apart from the last 5/10km. Crosswinds can provide drama with a split peloton but they dont occur that often. As Cav seems to be winning all the flat sprints then the sprints arent quite as exciting - at least last year we didnt know if he could do it - now we know he can.

As for the overall, it already seems fairly settled to me who is going to win despite the lack of action in the Pyrenees. However, there are still plenty of stages left and hopefully tomorrow will see the first of the stages where people really start attacking Astana and trying to make it less settled.

    They're all waiting for Ventoux

If the organisers thought that introducing it as the final finish before Paris would cause fireworks they're right. However none have happened before - they should have made it a 3 stage Tour this year

Has the Tour been dull this year? Yep, pretty much. Has it stopped me watching every day? Not a chance.
  • I think you don't like watching clean riders.
  • I think you don't like watching clean riders.
are you claiming that this years snore de france is uncharacteristically free from competition for the GC due to a miraculous blanket clean-up of the peloton? and are you absolutely sure its nothing to do with the nature of the parcours?...

The EPO era is over, man! Everyone has seen the error of their ways... except, er, Inigo Landaluze and Ricardo Serrano. And Dekker. And those 12 Italians.

I sometimes have to double-check to make sure I'm looking at the bikeradar forum and not a forum for a bunch of miserable, negative, bitter depressives that hate the sport of cycling, the riders, the teams, the greatest sporting contest on earth and life itself!

Honestly, if you want boring try watching F1 or 90 minutes of football.

For sure the GC has been on simmer for a few days but there's been plenty to enjoy on every stage.

    Bored?

Don't worry, Vino's ban ends next week :?
  • I love the sport of cycling, and you dont need drugs to make it exciting - its just that this year's tour is not a good example of how exciting it can be.
