felt before the Manc to Blackpool I was feeling a little jaded but thought nothing of it as its been a manic month at work .... however, since sunday gone steadily down hill , culminating in the freakish sensation of my legs giving way last night !

anyway ..turns out I'm a confirmed statistic and currently doping myself up with tamiflu whilst mixing the day between live TDF and Xbox whilst in enforced quarantine !

so..... has anybody else had it and if so how long was it before you got back on the bike fit and well ?

summers running out and I'm not a happy bunny !

oh ..and sods law I get it on a week that i have booked off as leave !

mate, by law you can claim back that week that you had booked off.

I had that happening to me last year and HR told me that they will give me my holiday back!

That depends on the company - some are just giving SSP.

Hard luck with the flu - hope you get better soon. (At least you have got the TDF)!

Check with your HR department, but if a Doctor has signed you off (i.e. not self-certificated), then you should get this holiday back.

Good job you got the tamiflu, but you do need it 48 hours post symptoms else it is next to useless! However if taken quickly enough it should reduce symtoms and decrease longevity of illness.

Lesson is, get some when you first get a symptom!

As for getting back to training I'd start when YOU feel ready, short rides to start with too...

couldn't agree more re: the tamiflu ...only was given it 3 or 4 days into illness ...and it made me feel worse!

now have the delight of secondary infection ..but...but ...im hoping that the cough and wheeze is the dog end of it ...im seriously bored and ....

    missing my bike :(

had some sportive rides planned within the next fortnight ...heart says I'll be ok ...head says otherwise ...and that's winding me up even more!

Take your time with coming back, do you have an indoor trainer? That could be a good option to get your wheels spinning again while you are recovering, something you can control too in a safe environment ie home!

Ditto - my first week off since New Year is next week and lo and behold here I am coughing my guts up with a high temperature etc etc. GP's not sure if it is swine flu or not cos I haven't got a thermometer... but still. Ah well all one can do is sit it out.
  • As I've just posted in my topic just coming off the back end of 2 weeks of swine flu, went out for a 20 mile ride and was out on my arse. Take it easy fella.

Another statistic here. So so glad the TDF is on does make staying at home bearable.

Mine came on Monday but my GP will not give Tamiflu unless you have an underlying medical condition. Fluids and paracetamol I've been told. Surgery receptionist made me laugh when i asked did I need to go to the surgery to see a doctor she couldn't tell me quick enough to stay at home the doctor will telephone me.

Anyone elses work have a forced 5 day quarantine period?

I'm in much the same boat myself. Mrs got it at the start of the week and I've developed major systoms this weekend. Currently feel terrible

She's felling ok now but he legs are dead apparently. The cough is the worst part - I'm in agony with my throat

One thing is certain though - make sure you're rested and properly fit before getting back on the bike.
  • Thought i was well over it had a great weekend felt fine then went to work sunday night woke up monday afternoon absolutely terrible went to work mon night and got sent home it now seems i have it AGAIN!!!! However i've been given tamiflu this time and it seems to be working my cough has gone and throats feeling much better.

I'm gutted I had worked out how many miles i wanted to do this week to get back in the saddle and I'm sidelined again

managed to get a 15mile starter last sat , 35mile second ride tue and a wet and hot/cold/hot/cold/hot/cold 55 today .... can feel it a little in the back of the quads ..but hey ho I'm up a mobile again .

will reluctantly give the Pendal a miss on Sunday though ...to much to soon.

hope the rest of you are making recovery!

ps - the phrase hot......relates to northwest uk summer hot ....somewhere between tepid and lukewarm!

Went to do a 50 yesterday and had to drag my sorry backside back home after 30.

Completely knackered and my whole body was aching. Thought I was over the worse been 2 weeks now.
