I have decided to follow your good advice and am booked in for a session at Epic next week. Discussions with Chris at Epic and Mark at Viner UK all fill me with confidence even if the random confusing nature of the Viner range doesn't! Maxima probably is a good choice - saves getting lost in the hopeless maze of the lesser machines. Mind you, my probable choice now is rather more than the original intended budget - but I'm saying nowt til I return from Tenbury!
Chris was who I dealt with, tell him Olivia Grace says hi!
And CJ, yeah, that's good, but this is nicer... that blue one appears to have some weird-ass groupset...

Heh heh.
I think the Dura Ace looks better. (I would't buy DA because I don't think it's worthwhile.)
+1 for Chris being a nice chap to deal with.FCN 2-4.

You mean he doesn't know you as LiT? And I thought he was a professional bike bloke!
And what sort of crazed maniac would put Shimano on a pure blood Italian bike? That's just wrong....Faster than a tent.......0 -
Dura Ace 'weird-ass"? Well, speaking as someone who has never ridden any road bike with integrated shifters (my last drop-bar machine was an ancient Peugeot- lovely colour, very quick, but rock-hard ride, didn't brake well, didn't go well in the end...) I have absolutely no preference for any groupset manufacturer (though I have seen SRAM Red on a Dahon Mu EX- flat bar shifters- rather nice). Never bought anything Campag, SRAM and Shimano I have experience of, but if/when I do buy, if it's new (as opposed to the Temptations of eBay) I would probably make an effort to test ride all three systems, and then fit whatever system I liked most for the money I wanted to spend. If you don't like the way it works, you don't want to put up with it on the road. And this 'Italian bikes must have Campag' thing is all well and good, but that's like saying Trek and Specialized bikes must have SRAM, Storck and Focus would presumably all have to have either hub gears or a Lightweight rear derailleur and no front as there's no German groupset.....
Fit what you like!Dahon Speed Pro TT; Trek Portland
Viner Magnifica '08 ; Condor Squadra
