I have only been cycling for 12 months this month but have gone for someone knocking on deaths door to someone who is less than 24 hours away from doing the Manchester to Blackpool ride.

What am azing 12 months its been, I just wanted to thank you all for the amazing support you have given, especially the "caped one"

I was a little worried about joining a cycling forum for fear of ridicule etc but you have all been amazing (bar one poster who will remain nameless) So lets hope I repay the faith you have all shown in me by not only getting to Blackpool but getting there NOT in LAST place.

Of course I want to give a special thanks to everyone that has sponsored me too, showing faith in someone like me is just such an amazing thing and I thank you all.

Thanks again everyone

Gaz. Good Luck mate. Just enjoy the day and not worry about where you come - revel in the fact that you are there.

    That's what is important

(Oh and if you fancy a pootle around some great country lanes - give us a shout and bring your bike  )

Good luck, Gaz! I'm sure you don't need luck, apart from the absence of our puncture fairy friend. =)

I might have seen you on the ride, as I have a number and everything. But I can't actually get to Manchester for my start time. The earliest train from Lancaster to Manchester gets me there at 11:30am - 3 hours after I'm supposed to start. Public transport in this country it crap. So I'm not doing it after all.

Enjoy the ride, dude. Looks like the weather's going to be kind.

Best of luck, remember to push yourself back onto the wings of the saddle on the climbs and you will trounce the hills.

Which reminds me must get my entry in for the tour of dartmoor the classic was ace.

  • Gaz,

Although I joined this forum in '07 I didn't really stick with it; my bike was stolen, I didn't replace it and lost my cycling mojo!

I now have a new bike and I returned to the forum yesterday for a look around. I saw you mentioned in a thread and read some of your blog yesterday, it really blew me away.

I tend to lose weight by cycling as it's something I enjoy, I'm down to 18st something from 21st something, but what you have done is truly inspirational.

Best of luck for the ride, I'm looking forward to the update when it's all over!

The trouble is it is also my best top as far as temperature control, so I wear it on the hills.

I do get noticed in it.

But I also look a twassock:

I may be doing it after all (seems my wife doesn't need the car as I thought).

If so, start time 8:30, number 598. I'll probably be in full lycra, but pootling. :D Black and white skeleton jersey, black white and yellow bike. Might substitute baggies for the bib shorts, so I don't look like a twonk on my pootle. ;)

    Gaz,

Good luck for tomorrow, I've followed your quest from the start and it's SERIOUSLY impressive what you've done - tomorrow will be a piece of cake compared to what you've done in the last 12 months. I don't think a bit of rain can stop you now. Go and kick some Blackpool a**e!!

Good Morning from a dry Blackpool. Setting off in the next half hour and the weather is dry, now for the bad news, it's blowing a propper hooligan and it has changed direction, it is now blowing from the west. Good luck everyone, see you enroute.

Good luck / well done Gaz, I've just been and donated, meant to do it a while ago but only just got round to it.
I've really enjoyed reading your posts on here and your blog, very impressed with your achievement so far. The world would be a better place for a few more people like you willing to put themselves out there and take a bit of a risk to improve themselves and also willing to give something back.
