I need an alternate to crisps

There is no alternative to crisps.........0

I'm so glad others are having the "i'm doing a million miles a week and getting fatter" thing as well.
Have moved to keeping loads of celery handy, or raw carrots, although not quite as good as crisps.
Bits of dried fruit (apples / bananas)?
That worked for a while, trouble is the wife keeps making rock cakes (her pregnancy craving) and they're sooo damn tempting.
So let me know when someone has worked out the magic bullet (and xenical is not an option - had a couple of friends who tried it - not pleasant at all!)"Bed is for sleepy people.
Let's get a kebab and go to a disco."

Yeah - you see that bit on my second post about being a vegetarian? I have a high enough fibre diet as it is. Any more of the bleeding stuff and I'll be pooing trees.Chunky Cyclists need your love too! :-)

Leftfield idea - brush your teeth. I don't remember who suggested it to me, but if you brush your teeth after a meal you don't feel the need to keep snacking in the same way cos you don't have the taste of food in your mouth. That plus water to help fill you up.
Crisps are a big weakness for me. Sweets I can take or leave, savoury food is a killer though.FCN 6 in the week on the shiny new single speed.
FCN 3 at the weekend - struggling to do it justice!0 -
Drink more water - makes you feel full without eating - also sprints to the toilet will help you slim
Seriously I have the same problem - after getting back on the bike I'm much fitter than I was but I still have the spare tractor tyre - think maybe I need to strengthen my abs0 -

If you run out of Andrex you can always try an angle grinder with a wire brush attachment.

Sugarfree gum or mints? Best thing about that is all you can pretty much eat or drink afterwards is either another mint or water - everything else tastes foul!
Don't wolf too many down though. Sorbitol has an, erm...loosening effect...0 -
coffee & nicotine gum! use one piece of gum every hour or so & then you can eat whatever you fancy -which frankly wont be very much.0

I didn't read the whole thread but I find rice cakes the savoury variety do a decent job, 30 calories each and if you get the wholewheat ones then they are borderline health food! 8)0

There is only one Crisp - Kettle Chips Salt & Cracked Black Pepper. Preferably with hummous as a dip.
Everything else is a disappointment.
I'm just finishing off a bowl of them now :twisted:Misguided Idealist0 -
try rice cakes with a thin spreading of marmite.. really low in fat and theyre so savoury they make your lips wrinkle!FCN 8 in winter

We've started doing them at work now.. it has not made my attempt at giving up crisps any easier
I like the Rice cake idea though... marmite mmm.... Pedigree versionChunky Cyclists need your love too! :-)

KB - May I recommend seeds - I lightly toast a mix of "hulled" sunflower seeds and pumpkin seeds in a dry frying pan (no oil/fat required). You can munch on these all day long with no guilt! Also have been known to add Pine Kernels and raisins to the final mix. Yummy IMHO
Greg T speaks the truth as always, Walkers Ready Salted is the king of crisps, although plain Hula Hoops also float my snack boat0 -

Get yerself a nubile Thai bride and use her fingers0 -
I might be able to fit it on there but then how would I get to it? And I definately am not going to use someone elses!
The thai bride idea could be a goer, not sure if my regular bride would be too happy. I think we need an au pairSaracen Tenet 3 - 2015 - Dead - Replaced with a Hack Frame

Walkers French Fries - Worcester Sauce flavour are <100kcal, but satisfyingly crispy.
Or, better still, Dr Karg organic crispy crackers. The emmenthal cheese and pumpkin seed are particularly nice.0 -
Right - as one actual lardass helping out one potential lardass:
-Cream crackers - dry - actually nice with coffee
-Rice cakes - done already but +1 the Tesco's S&V
-Nuts +1 but make mine cashews
-fruit flakes or just plain old fruit
-pretzels, not chocolate (colleague just brought a huge tin back from the States...mmmmm)
HTH
It's just a hill. Get over it.0 -

+1 - these are sooooo tasty! Especially with Humus dip! I am very hungry now!0 -
I'm with you KB, savoury snacks kick sweets' asses. The saltier the better.
The only solution I've found is to get carrot or celery or toasted pitta bread sticks and some dip. Trouble is I'm nowhere near organised enough to do this. I also found some Food Doctor mixed seeds in soy sauce once, very tasty very healthy but very expensive.FCN 7
Porridge and coffee - the breakfast of champions0 -
I wouldn't go for nuts. I used to eat a lot of crisps and have the same problem with bags of nuts. There is still loads of calories in nuts even if they are at least a natural product.
I'd suggest carrot sticks (crunchy like crisps, give you energy but not so morish) and sunflower seeds.

I seem to have hit a savoury nerve with this question...
Okay then, put it this way:
You've got a film to watch and you're gonna curl up with a drink (pint / glass of wine) what snack would you have with said film / drink combo?
This is where it all falls apart for me as it's grab bag / pringles tube time.
The Tescos S&V rice cakes will be tried - I may even pop over to Sainsburys at lunch and see what they have as an equivalentChunky Cyclists need your love too! :-)

Another +1 for the Tesco S&V Rice Cakes
Crisps are an addiction I have to really avoid the aisle at the supermarket as I have no control. Also trying to drink more water instead of immediately snacking too. My big vice is McCain lightly spiced potatoe wedges covered in Bodeans Chipotle Ketchup; its just too nice for words.+++++++++++++++++++++

Ha ha - sorry. My "significant other" makes what she calls "slimming world chips" when we watch a movie - these are potato wedges oven cooked using spray olive oil - really small amount of oil used, these are what is called "free food" by slimming world, they are tasty too http://www.slimmingworld.com/healthy_eating/recipe_chips.asp
also try Ryvita mini's - not too bad, rice cakes you can keep in my opinion - horrible things0 -
