Weird knee pain not had before, any ideas?

Was out earlier today for a 60-mile ride and over the last 20 miles I had some constant very achey pain just above knee/below quad. Was worse when not pedalling and couldn't ease it with any stretching. When i was home it was pretty damn painful just to stand & walk, but wasn't that 'jelly-legged' type of situation. Pain subsided after about 20-30mins though.
Didn't have this when i did back to back 100miles, which was about 6 weeks ago, and nothing until now, only change i have made as far as i remember was angling saddle down 1 notch to ease perineum pressure a bit. Any ideas what this is or what the cause could be?
Uploaded pic of where pain was across.
Any help/comments appreciated!

Looks like you've got too much hair on your legs. Only joking. I've recently started getting similar pain in the same place, but mine started after doing the DLMC. Mine has started to ease now though. Just take an extra rest day between rides or if you can't do that make sure your next ride is an easy one. Also check if cleat has moved. If pain persists go and see your GP.0

I had pain in a similar location, only in my right knee after an 80 miler.
I took it easy until the pain went away.
I also had a proper bike fit and set up my bike from the drawings provided which helped a lot with back pain I was getting after a long ride. Main adjustment was bar height and seat down 10mm.
I have feet that over pronate. I have look CX7 pedals, and I set the angle of the pedal to -1.5 degrees which compensated for this pronation. I think you can do this the same way with adding shims under your cleats????
One other thing I found was my cleat had slackened off during the ride so my foot had not been in the correct position. So set these back up correctly.
To be honest, i changed so much at once god only knows what the real cause was but the above my give you some ideas 8)0 -
Cheers, wasnt even just in one knee, was exact same pain on both. New bike coming on thursday anyway so hopefully problems wont be there, or more likely ill just find some new ones to solve ^^0
