Shimano cage spd jobs (M565 or something - can never remember) and some spesh tahoe shoes - good shoe, not too stiff, can walk in it, great pedal no clogging and easy to engage but with good size cage if you want to be out of the clips.
V8's and old trainers for commuting so I can do skid stops and jump off at the bike rack mainly! Oh and go to the gym straight off bike!

Whatever peddles came on the bike and a pair of Puma Clydes.

Probably switch over to Karrimors as the weather deteriorates.

Running shoes and Wellgo platforms :)
I always used to run SPDs but I have more fun with platforms and that's what it's all about.

V8s and some bargain bucket Karrimor walking shoes/trainers I picked up from the local sports shop.
You only need two tools: WD40 and Duck Tape.
If it doesn't move and should, use the WD40.
If it shouldn't move and does, use the tape.

I'm not allowed SPDs due to a knackered leg so I use Wellgo MG-1s on the Soul, and I've got a set of V8s on the spare. Both perfectly good but the Wellgos are lighter.

For shoes, I've got a set of 5-10 Basics but I don't use them much, for most riding I wear a pair of cheap old Vans... No denying that the 5-10s are grippier but I just find it's irrelevant, the Vans have more than enough grip and I never slip with them. (oh, I do occasionally lose a pedal but not in situations where more grip helps) Just hype, IMO. My Vans are cheaper, comfier, and better made, and far better for walking in. Oh, and they look better too ;)

Usually Specialized BG Comp shoes and M520 pedals. Very occationally 661 Taki shoes and Superstar Nano flat pedals.

I'd definitely say knowing how to ride both is the best way to go, unfortunately I'm crap on flats now after a few years on SPDs.

Same set up as me, however...

I wanted some shoes that would grip when pushing your bike up muddy hills etc and this quote stuck in my mind and I remembered seeing the aforementioned karrimor shoes at sports soccer, anyhoo I picked a pair up for £20 quid and there brilliant, nice and comfortable, gripped well on my local quagmire-get-off-and-push hill and they stayed dry.
But I couldnt get my feet to grip on the pedals due to the grips of the shoes so I took a knife to them, cut off most of the grips on the forefoot leaving some on the very front and one side and obviously left the grip on the heel and now I have a perfect pair of riding shoes for 20 quid ! 5815_232674020505_889620505_7784689_76516_n.jpg5815_232674375505_889620505_7784714_5948194_n.jpg

shimano m520 and specialized bg sport shoes, but after my weekend of troublsome riding off road going to order some cheap wellgo v8's to go with my merrels, just to get some experience behind me then probably change back to spd's.

M520's on the XC bike with Specialized shoes. Have a habit of striking the pedals on rocks/roots, so cant justify posh pedals.

Then 5-10's and Kona Wah Wah's on the freeride/dh bike. VEry very grippy combination.
