Woo, a full week cycling...!

...has't yet happened, I've always lamed out somewhere in the middle or at either end!
But in the week after our summer drinks I shall be forced to cycle commute daily as the bloke is borrowing the car to go away MTBing somewhere woody and hilly with his brother.
Think it's just what I need to make me do it and realise it doesn't kill me (or do it once and realise it /does/...)

[Zen]The real challenge is not riding the bike for a whole week. The real challenge is having the strength to ignore the easier alternative at your disposal..[/zen]
If you ride your bike for a week when the car isn't there, when the car returns there is nothing to stop you jumping into it anyway.
Next why not ride all this week and overcome your demon.Food Chain number = 4

Can you not ride to work from your BF or move in with him/get him to move in with you....Food Chain number = 4

I made a clean break last week - cycled in every day whatever the weather and now I've done that - I know I can continue. Obviously I don't know how long your commute is or what your facilities are like at work, but for me it's now a no brainer and it's at least 5-6 minutes faster than a good run in the car!
Good luck!0 -
Heee, we're not at that stage yet sadly DDD
I do occasionally ride from his but that requires a lot of packing and faffing getting my bike and stuff over to his in the first place.
Some days I just don't want to get out of bed, those days turn into driving days - as it sadly is much faster for me to go by car (even though the route is longer - it's mainly motorway).
I'm quite happy in all weathers, just as DDD says, the car keys are always there for lazy days - a week without the car will hopefully provide me with a good kick up the rear!0 -
Go on SJ, you know you can do it0
-
I did my first full week the week before last, I had to cancel my train pass to make me though. I don't think i've used the train now for about 3 weeks. I also haven't worked a full week since, today I'm on the sofa watching the indycars 8)Saracen Tenet 3 - 2015 - Dead - Replaced with a Hack Frame

sarajoy, you can do it. next time when you stay at her BF's flat, instead of drive there you cycle there and make the cycling as her first choice of transporting."It is not impossible, its just improbable"

soy_sauce I try to do that most of the time anyway, as driving around Bristol can be a nightmare sometimes! And I've already had a parking ticket near his place, too many cars, not enough spaces....
I think I'm getting close, it's often just logistics making me get lazy.
RIGHT.
I should be able to do it all of (the rest of) this week. Not sure I've even done 4 days in a row properly yet! Then here's hoping I can do ALL of next week...0 -
Good luck SJ!
Managed a 5 day bike commute last week and felt great for it. Had to use the car today and for some reason feel a right grump..0 -

School girl mistake. Slowly, but surely bring your stuff round and just happen to leave it there.
3 weeks later, he'll find that he needs to buy another wardrobe, a bedside cabinet and he'll come back from work to find you're already there, having let yourself in - how you got a key is a mystery, with dinner on the stove all curled up watching corrie...
Girls do this, they have transporters from their room to guy's flats and periodically beam their stuff over...Some days I just don't want to get out of bed, those days turn into driving days
Yes I find leaving my girlfriend in bed to go to work very hard as well....I'm quite happy in all weathers, just as DDD says, the car keys are always there for lazy days - a week without the car will hopefully provide me with a good kick up the rear!
Just don't go back to the car, when it returns.Food Chain number = 4

Go for it SJ - hybrids rule0

You see SJ if you had a roadie this wouldn't be an issue - you'd love the commute so much that it'd be 5 days a week all the time.
I get very antsy when I don't manage 5 days, it happens very rarely as I'm careful with booking meeting etc.
Ease yourself into it and you'll not look back.- 2023 Vielo V+1

WTFU woman Sell the car then you have no choice but to ride, if you need to drive somewhere there are schemes in place in Brizzle for the occaisonal user. Don't sign up for the SCR Stats as you'll soon overtake me and it aill be another place lost in the pursuit of ITBoffin
Go for it, it mind seem daunting to start with but once you've done it a few times you'll think why didn't I do this before.I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.0 -

Now, listen here, young lady. You're kidding nobody but yourself with these mumblings of logistical issues.
Just pull yourself together and get on with it. We'll have no more excuses.
*end*
Seriously though, give yourself a good talking to. If I can't be bothered getting out of bed I'm just late to work, I still cycle.
It's a change of mentality - for me in London the default is the bike. I almost never drive, certainly wouldn't drive to work, and using the tube is a hassle because I have to find my oyster card. It's that switch from 'car=default' to 'bike=default'... and I appreciate that it may well be harder in Bristol.0 -

Gotta agree with Dave here, If I cant be assed to get out of bed then im just wait, Cant stand being in the car at any point now, bit of a turn around that.On a Mission to lose 20 stone..Get My Life Back

Kick up the arse received.
It was very close this morning - I even set the second, later set of alarms after having snoozed away the first set, with the full intention of driving in.
When I did finally leave bed and saw how warm it was, and how low the wind, and how stupid it was not to ride.... so here I am, in work, a bit late. Cheers all!
Thing is I don't mind poor weather but I think good weather just adds extra incentive (woo, the cyclist's sun-tan).0 -

I didn't do my first full week of biking until shamefully recently, but on Monday (the day after my 24-hour ride) I wisely took the tube to work and I realised that all the elements that used to be automatic - checking I had my oyster, turning up at the station three mins early to buy my ticket, where to stand on the platform etc. etc. - had fallen out of my instinctive brain and I had to concentrate on everything!
I'm back on the train today AND tomorrow and it's killing me (and not just cos Liv will catch me in the stats)0 -
People don't cycle to work every day  I thought that was a given
Way to go SJ. Just one more day then you can treat yourself to something nice0 -
.........once you've managed a 5 day week, then get rid of those gears!!! or at least stay in one gear for the whole week. You dont really need them in this town. Please sponsor me here:

Grumble grumble 2 days travelling grumble grumble.
I miss the cycle commute when I don't do it.
Day off tomorrow, but getting my curls sorted out so still get to ride to Covent Garden, and perhaps the long way home... along the river or something...
Then I may take myself and my beloved Maxima to Essex and pretend to be pre-job ITB for a day!0
